Also get this, my neighbors can attest to how sane I am in any court of law and one of them is a theologian college professor at the University of Miami. I know more about the Bible than he does according to him the times the topic was discussed in passing chit chat. Next I'll have his students testifying to the evils of bureaucracy in this world stating being insane means you're stupid, as malevolent as sane people or that it's a bad thing. In a court room being charged with being sane by lunatics paying court fees, what could possibly go wrong?

Edit: I also have the entire local police department to testify to the sanity of what I've told them all responding to serious crimes against me and my family and to me not being a danger to anyone who isn't in Stand Your Ground Florida trying to kill me or my family expecting me to be the witness they kill to get away with it. SWAT that couldn't get a word in will never forget me.

Definitely figure out what you want in terms of games. You can get away with a lot less if you don't want to pay the latest garbage on max settings.

I kinda did but having something a bit beefier than what I was originally thinking would be a good idea.
for example I was thinking a intel core I3 quad core 10-12th gen but after looking at some of the newer games I'd like to check out an I5 would be a better choice.
I might consider an AMD but my experience with them is limited and not very positive they've all been underpowered but then again I didn't/don't have a top of the line series cpu either.

Intel and AMD are competitive with each other again.

As I mentioned before, anything you buy from C2D on up is going to run circles around your current CPU. Your best budget choice for all new HW would probably be a modern CPU/iGPU.

You can see here that Skylake is still offering acceptable performance in modern titles. Ivy and Haswell probably aren't far behind. Finding a combo deal for a cheap enough price shouldn't be too hard with a little patience.

I can't find it for sale anywhere, only the 12100F for $100 :shrug:.

It'd be around $220 to slap together a 13100/MB/memory. Never mind on the 12700k combo, looks like it's without HSF.

I agree with the I5 idea. I got a fourth gen full PC real cheap and couldn't believe the difference. My Ram worked from the old Core2 I had too. So was able to bump it from the 8 it had to 12. Plus it's new enough to have all the modern bells and whistles like a multi card reader and usb 3 etc..

I think it's the best option. With a little patience you can pick up an entire platform for a low price and performance isn't significantly worse aside from maybe emulators.

Yeah PS2 and GC stuff can still be tricky to run, depending on the game of course that I've noticed.

It got up to about 24c here today but we had a cold start and rain too. Pretty strange day.

do most i3 and i5 boards use DDR 4 or do some still use DDR 3?

Grouch, if you buy new I give my strongest caution on this:
Do not cheap out on the MB and PSU!

Get a MB which you can upgrade to a better CPU down the line (most CPUs eventually become close to worthless) and a PSU which isn't total crap.

On the other hand, no need to buy totl parts.

I'd reccommend going with an i5 for a CPU if you wanna play more modern games. I used this site https://www.build-gaming-computers.com/best-builds.html to help me with my first build.

Going off the top of my head, it was an i5 4690k or something @ 3.5Ghz, Nvidia GTX 970 4GB, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Asus mobo, 650W power supply and 1TB HDD. Back in 2015, it was considered a mid-range build. An i5 would also be good if you wanted to emulate more modern systems like PS3 or Xbox 360, even PS2.
