Wasn't going to use this in the end, but the pc I was going to put it into was incompatable (i.e. didn't realise that the motherboard was SATA til I started playing around with it) so I put it into the case for the super compy I was planning. Just want something to operate on, can't do anything on this laptop, want to get back into programming. Its going to probably be slow going, but it'll get me started again and that's what I need. Still plan to get a computer with these parts

Yeah, I believe it's the same socket. The second gen i7's are practically the same price though to be honest :P

I freaking love Megadeth. Marty Friedman is amazing. Also, Voltaire isn't bad, and I really enjoy some Metallica (although some of it is just.... ugh)

Yeah, What I'll do is buy the processor last, I'm on a decent wage at the moment (not minimum wage) and I don't have many out goings so I should be able to afford it :)

Honestly though, I can't think of much that needs that kind of power these days. In your case you might though if you're doing some hefty compiling
