How about a match or two in an RTS ?

Quite a few RTS outside C&C to consider though :D.
http://www.openra.net/
yes i can think of a few others but most are either to old to get working again or people just dont like em :( I'd love to give constructor a go online with someone XD ever since 1997!
there is a remake but like most things nowadays it has been turned into a console game :( .................DAMN that cave is looking good to live in round about now...
Thats something someone could do...start remaking beast n bumpkins and finish off its multiplayer mode! tons of people would wanna play that :D it was like monty python making a civ game
Give these a spin and report back?:
Kohan/Kohan 2, Dawn of War (any of them but it has to be retail, Sega pulled LAN/Direct from the Steam versions), Total Annihilation: Kingdoms, D&D - Dragonshard, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.
I've also got Warcraft 3, Starcraft, SC2 (WoL and HotS), Supreme Commander, and a bunch of others (mostly on GOG) but I'm not overly fond of them.
Well i used to play dawn of war ultimate apocalypse might be able to get that slapped on if i can find my damn discs :/ Didnt like SC2 (love 1 but only have brood war XD someone stole my SC disc -_- ), i have TA and TA kingdoms ^^ but only an original copy of kingdoms (also much prefered robots to medievil ) and my version of TA is an 8gig community made one...o.o ...WE shall think of something damnit XD
I have original TA but I dislike the gameplay (which is why I'm also not a fan of Supreme Commander). I need to pick up another copy of Starcraft at some point, I lost my disc ages ago.
I'll happily play anything I listed in my first list. The second list is stuff I'd be fine with a match or two on occasion but wouldn't want to play frequently.
Sins of a Solar Empire is kinda neat.
yarhar maytey ^^ will have to dig round the loft for zee discs then :D. Im also very much wanting to stop using steam aswell which is why im trying to jailbreak the games ive bought off it ...slow process but i am getting there :D My last straws were A) seeing how shitty their dosbox releases were which lead to B) Them just taking the ones GoG does because they are lazy fucks and gabe has probably become one with the building now and is demanding ritual offerings.....
Gabe demand crispie creamcreams!!!!!
Uhhh how many do you want gave, one, two or th-
GABE NO LIKE THAT NUUMMBBBAAAAAA!!! *causes valve HQ to quake hungrily & angrily*
This man once use to look like a slighty chubby trent reznor...now he looks like he's eaten trent...
I responded to this in the original thread but ended up deleting it so that doesn't fly too far off point. The hangout could use the activity anyway
I hear that. My experience with indies is that they've felt lacking and don't tend to get supported long enough or well enough to refine them.
I haven't been able to back any personally (except maybe satalite reign) like on a kickstarter page or anything but the ones i have followed have mostly pulled through with what they promised so far :) Haydee, BallisticNG, Satalite Reign (Although i do wish they'ed stuck with the syndicate wars way of doing things but it was still pretty good...), Smashing the Battle...
Not to say i havent had big middle fingers...Carmageddon reincarnation (And although i backed that on steam early access, got no cool car and got handed max edition for free, its all moot point as they were forced todo it, it was not done because ya know IT HAD BEEN PAID TO BE DONE they did it because the PC crowd was out for their blood....and it flopped on the console XD), system shock is another but its nightdive, i had little faith from the start and finally .....well i dare not speak its name V_V
Ah, actually yes one more giant "Fuck you" from the "indie" scene....Constructor's remake. They did EXACTLY the same thing stainless did with Carma, they kept the PC crowd happy, sponged, drained, sucked and squeezed ALL the money from them, then went "Ya' know what...consoles are SO much better, we're making this for them now ^^" and ruined the pc versions. Both console releases flopped, both companies tried crawling back to the P.C. community, although contructor's public relations person by the name of bright paw is beyong patronizing and still insults the pc crowd...so their way of doing it was more along the lines of "Well pffff we don't HAVE to be here you know, we don't HAVE To keep making these DLCs to charge for you but ya know, you could atleast damn well help us I MEAN WE ARE MAKING THE GAME YOU LOVE"............................................. ..............hmmmm......
I am seeing a scientific einstein level formula here!!! Porn + indie = good....old school game remade into newish game = good.....porn game mixed with old school game REMADE into new game = MONEH! Gentlemen...WE HAVE THE BASIS OF ALL INDIE LIFE!
Haydee = pornish game XD Pretty goood right? and its making money
BallisticNG = old game remade into newish...damn good id say and they are making moneh
Satlite Reign = same as above, doing well
Hundreds of thousands of porn old school rpg like games and visual novels? = MONEH!
I consider indie different from independent.
Indie = low budget low effort cash out
Independent = Serious effort at making a good game under time and budget constraints
Satellite Reign looks like I'd consider it the latter rather than the former.
*eh-heh-hem*......they lied about changing it into bioshock, they lied about simplifying it, they lied about the soundtrack, the lied about the rewards, they lied about it being PC first and above all else they fucking lied about the soundtrack......to me it needs to be said twice.
Now i shall go indepth XD The controls are exactly like bioshock, slugish...I forgave that because it was made with console in mind first, as much as that pains me to say, this wasn't. THis was ment to be "making the original better!" Again, they got the P.C. crowd to fund them they middle fingered us and now its gonna be released on xcawk/ps4 first and i know most people will hate it because it has an old school map....its more maze like than doom, its dark, its hard to navigate its ONLY for people who like to find secrets....old school format and trying to make it appeal to new players it isn't going to work and it just infuriates the people who HAVE Funded them.
They promised a dynamic, old school like midi infused soundtrack if they got enough money.....they gave us bioshock's violins, "moody moosic!" and dubstep.....looooots and looooots of dub step...not even drum and bass, just dubstep...............and no it doesn't play dynamically either. Other people may like it but to me this is exactly why star insurance bought the rights all those years ago, to stop this shit happening.....and they regret it now from what i hear.....
Yeah thats a good way of putting it XD much like indie music tbh ^^
I would recommend reign not just as a syndicate fan but a strat fan too. It's hard but i enjoyed myself and won't spoil it but the ending is.....powerfull. Infact, deadlegion i don't suppose you heard much about Reign did you? It was made in australia and apprently they got NOOOOOTHING but drama from the censors, wondering it its another that got no rating there.
Ah yeah forgot to say this XD
This is how the original SS1 soundtrack plays and how often it will change
Player moves around, picks a couple of calm parts to loop (slightly different depending on walking or running)
Player high/medium/low hp
Player in battle
player coming out of battle
enemy taking dmg
enemy distance from player
map area based
key item pick up...
and more!
and it was double fuck you because their crappy system shock enhanced edition? It isn't enhanced XD infact the soundtrack will never play properly again, they deleted most of its dynamic portions which is why over half the composition for both cyberspace and the groves doesn't play...it isn't there anymore. They could have left it in for us people who have synths but "naaaaaaah, it wasn't needed...wasnt causing any problems but ya know fuck you our version we stole the mouse mod we stole chicajos midi tracks to and we stole the free system shock flacs that got handed out to the community, FUCK YOU ALL AND BUY OUR REMAKE ^^"
What a load of crap :sad-no:. Not doing actual MIDI makes sense because of how involved it would be, what a turd alternative though.
Obsidian has their faults but I give them a lot of credit for NOT pissing time and resources into a console version of PoE during development. Torment: ToN ended up doing the opposite and support console versions and it shows.
I think movies are a better comparison now but yeah, pretty much.
ohhh no no no i get not using PROPER Midi like in the old days, BUT at the same time midi is still used in so many things to this day man. Any electronic music you listen to is using midi somewhere along the way from a synth to a keyboard, infact ANYTHING that uses a soundfont :D...that is what they promised :( fast paced stuff, technological, industrial (infact ALL industrial music still uses midi! :D) all that kind of thing with that type of hardware and thought pattern in mind...just updated....and yeah they lied and we got violins and skrillex style dubstep....so not dubstep atall (proper dubstep is like raggae dub and makes for great smoking music XD).
Ok here is an example, system shock 2 music even though it works on old school mp3s and is a drum and bass...jungle...electronic mishmash, when composing that its still ALL midi :D just daaaaaymn good midi, expencive midi, 5000 dorra keyboard midi with a couple of drum loop synths XD And i guess they have given that....but its just bioshocks music pushed into system shock with again dubstep, that isn't doing medical justice in my opinion, you get no cool guitar whine while you are waking up and beating mutants off with a pipe XD you dont get a reeeeally aggressive sounding industrial track in reactor that honestly sounds like something big mean, is angry and looking at you XD thats what im getting at i guess. The feel and love isn't there and neither is the hardware they promised.
Riven is another example, the synths used in that are still synths but they are so expencive, so much hardware and software pumped into them the soundfont almost sounds real...and nowadays hell YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERNECE! its THAT good
I wish i could have faith in that bud, i really do :( oh they've also taken away the hacker's ponytail....that to my symbolises what they wanna' do toit, im out. System Shock was a dark take on things that were happening in our culture at the time and MOSTLY star trek. IT wasn't made for everyone and when you try? It makes everything that people did like about the first fail because you arnt basing it ON THOSE THING (and again, the whole thing was "lets make star trek into a cyber punk!" and system shcok was born)
Blade Runner is boring :P.
I'm not sure what's so challenging about taking a classic game and only improving what needs it.
BEcause that doesn't make "mmmmmmmmOOONEEEEEHHH!" Think about it, these games back then...infact ALL games were niche back then. There was a game for everything and everyone and if making money hand over fist is NOT on your mind then you can still doit, easily...and people will love it and give you money enough to live....but big companies and now little shits dont want that, they want all the moneh they want max profit for minimum content...old games were not that for a start, they were good proft for MAX content.
Japan honestly taught me this XD you can make niche games and stay alive for years, look at ys saga o.o that has remained niche its ENTIRE life and that company is doing nothing but getting stronger, it came VERY Close to dieing i will admit...wanna know when ? when they tried to go mainstream and become like everyone else XD They realised their mistake ad went back to niche...now we are upto ys VIII
It's still possible over here it's just that Activision, EA, and Ubisoft gobble up the smaller developers. IP that could generate good profit for small or mid-sized developers isn't sufficient for the big publishers because of the absurd way they work now.
yeah that little docu thingie showed us the other day was very eye opening :/
"here is our fifa football cash cow money sponging method of prying money from the consumers wallets....what's YOUR version"
uuhhhhhhhhh
"DENIIIIIIIIIIED!!" *Brings down the gavel*
Look at Pillars of Eternity or the Divinity series as decent examples. PoE and Divinity: OS have around 1 - 1.5million units moved according to Steamspy and probably a few hundred thousand to a million more from GOG and other channels. That's crap by big publisher standards but still good for companies that aren't enormous.
