I agree, I did enjoy the fact that it played pretty much at the same speed as it's 2d counterparts.

Also if anyone is interested in buying a Tekken 5 Hori Ps2 stick for $55 + shipping let this guy know on SRK here's the link
You'd be lucky to get it cheaper than that.
Toying around is good. It helps you understand the character better so it helps when you fight against said character.
Makoto is pretty hard to use. Her combos are basic but require Hayate (dash punch) cancels most of the time. Generally you want to play patient because most of the cast can keep you out. So try to focus dash fireballs to get in. Except against Sim or Guile where you want to Tsurugi (axe kick) over fireballs. I find that she is more accessible in AE vs Super. She only has two get off me moves, EX orochi (overhead chop) and EX Karakusa (choke grab). EX orochi has invicibility but EXKarakusa only has super armor so they both can be beaten. Her super also has invincibility but her EX moves are so good. Makoto with meter is very scary! Try to watch how you use meter. Defensively you can beat most crossups with Fukiage(Up punch) so that's always a good choice.
She is pretty much a faster T-Hawk. You want to work your opponent in the corner and get in. Then once your there bait out reversals on your opponents wake up. Use your pokes to get in like cr. strong (mp), toward + strong (that funky looking forward punch, and st. strong (the double arm karate punch) to get in.
From there just practice safe jumps and option selects.
Bad matchups are Gief, Hawk, Ken, Cody, Viper, Rog...
Good match ups are Sim, Rose, Sakura, Vega...
