I have dosbox 0.74 and i have the game, however i do not know how to run a CD based dos game via dosbox. I do know how to run normal dos games with it, just no idea how the heck to run a CD based dos game.

hmmn okay looking at the data files list, it looks like i need monsters.sou, tentacle.000 and tentacle.001. I am missing monsters.sou. I do however have a monsters.sof file. I downloaded the game off of the main site

the sof file is just a compressed version of monster.sou and works fine with SCUMMVM as it happens it's only SCUMMVM that can read it

As you only have the data files you couldn't run it with Dos box or any other sort of OS or x86 emulator as there is not exec file to run

actually there was a MT32_control.rom and mt32_pc.rom files extracted as well. But good news to hear that i have what scummvm needs. I'll probably get around to trying it out later today.

really easy to setup but if you have any problems let m know, I actually have it setup on my Dreamcast and PC at the moment, had it on my GP2X, DS & PSP in the past aswell

the 2 rom files are drivers only, not sure why they are left there, nothing can be done with those without the main exec that reads them, the 3 data files is all you need

No problems starting it up, i'm already enjoying the game(the voices really suit the characters well, and there's a good amount of hilarious dialogue) I do notice scummvm complaining about wanting a disk in drive \device\harddisk2\dr2 every time i start it up however. I haven't figured out where the actual in game save option is, so i've been using the savestate option provided by scummvm.

F5 for options, including save/load

Don't know about the \device\harddisk2\dr2 thing never seen or heard of that before, maybe something you setup in the paths ...

yes F5 is what i've been using to save. As for the other thing, i installed it to the default path, C:/Program Files(x86)/Scummvm. Its the standard install path for a 32bit program on a 64bit OS. Here is a screenshot detailing what I was talking about, it asks twice in a row every time Scummvm is started Clicking on cancel twice results in Scummvm window coming up, but its still rather odd.

The screen grab is too low quality to read

best way to do a screen grab is via "Alt+print screen" or for most laptops "fn+alt+prt sc" that will take a shot of the active window instead of the entire desktop

EDIT: couldn't find a true answer for it but try installing to a none standard location, I have mine installed on an external drive rather than my C drive

You can also try an older version or a daily build version instead

Okay, but before i uninstall and then reinstall to another location, is there a way of keeping my save files i currently have if i do so? Current save path simply says "default" which doesn't tell me where they are to make a backup of them before uninstalling/reinstalling. Also here is another attempt at screen grab Honestly I didn't know you could do a screen grab of just the active window, good thing to learn .

saves are stored in the scummvm install folder

e.g. tentacle.s00 for save slot 0

P.S. I do have an older version and that error has shown for others with 1.6.0 but no real answer was given ... :/

that was the very first place i looked, they are not showing up there. Bleh i guess i'll just uninstall/reinstall anyway and probably lose the saves.

reinstall to new location is complete, still getting the same error, but at least my saves are still intact somehow.

They might not be with an install of an older version this issue seems to of popped up since 1.6.0

try 1.5.0 (I'm on 1.4.1 myself, I have missed a couple of updates)
