    Default ff8 change disc problem

Sorry if my specific problem has been answered, but i didn't find it.

    I'm running windows 7 and epsxe 1.6.0.

Just downloaded all my favorite FF games, and I am ready to switch discs in FF8. I am using the ingame save option like most have suggested, and it says disc 2 on the save file. But when i choose switch discs, i get a wrong disc error. So, like others have suggested, i restarted epsxe with the new disc, but i get a black screen, not even the title screen. I tried other discs in ff8 and they do the same. I tried ff7 disc 2, and it gave me the title screen. Some people have suggested that others have had different ff8 types (language)of isos, but I believe i have the correct set. My files are named: Final Fantasy VIII (E) (Disc 1) [SLES-02080].bin, Final Fantasy VIII (E) (Disc 2) [SLES-12080].bin, Final Fantasy VIII (E) (Disc 3) [SLES-22080].bin, and Final Fantasy VIII (E) (Disc 4) [SLES-32080].bin. When I try to hit escape and return to the main menu during the black screen after i choose disc 2, theres an error message that flashes, and epsxe shuts down. It goes by too fast to read. Hope thats enough info to get some help. I guess ill play ff7 until i get it fixed. Thanks all

Could it be that you have not patched the other discs? The european versions of FF VIII are copy-protected so you need to patch them in order to play them with ePSXe.

If so, then take a look at this thread and follow its instructions: http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?67412

Well spotted I never noticed the user was using the PAL version, though can be done with SBI files now instead of the olde patches

Maybe I should do a guide for SBI's sometime

I patched disc 2, and nothing. I got that error message i spoke of earlier, it said, "SPEC Opcode 2c UNK (PC 000002f0) (862,304)"

Try a different version of ePSXe, I think 1.6.0 was the one with the disc swap error(1.9.0 should work better), or mount the bin(or .cue if the games include a .cue) in an external virtual disc mounting app like Daemon Tools Lite.

1.9.0 is the version to go for

version 1.9.25 tries to get past the libcrypt though but has obviously errored

Grab the (U) version if you don't want to use patches

or get the patches and drop those in the patches folder and use the (E) version

    if you are wondering E = Europe, U = USA, J = Japan

it was only the european version that had copy protection

if you upload your save (memory card image file) I can convert it for you to a USA save so you don't have to play CD 1 again

The espxe000.MCR file? Its an invalid file type. I downloaded the U version, and it seems to work, besides the save file.

epsxe000.mcr is the default "Memory Card" for epsxe. If you downloaded one, you will need to find your ePSXe folder and place the new .mcr file in the memcards folder there. If you have anything saved on right now on your original memory card you should rename it before you place the new one there or it will be overwritten.
