Default X-Men vs. Street Fighter Save Data Issue on SSF Version 0.12 beta R3

Hello. I am not sure where else to look for to fix this issue so I hope this forum will help me out.

I am using SSF, Version 0.12 beta R3, and I am trying to get X-Men vs Street Fighter to work correctly. This video should explain a bit of what is going on, though I'll try to go into more detail here... Yes, I do upload videos on YouTube and have been uploading videos for quite some time. Here is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoGEq1NQ6jk

I'll try to explain what happens as the video shows as well as giving additional details:

I use Daemon Tools Lite, and since it's free, I use that instead of Virtual CloneDrive, unless that is free, then I might consider getting that too and see if I can fix it, but I have the X-Men vs. Street Fighter .cue file mounted and start the game. Whenever the save data for X-Men vs Street Fighter is present in the external or internal folder where the saved games are kept, the next time I load up the game, the emulator boots back to the bios screen, or in the case of the video, the drive door opens by itself. I have tried using CDMage to scan for errors, I have tried getting the game from other sources and it seems to not work properly. This doesn't seem to happen if I have the SSF files placed into it's first folder but I can't remember where that first folder is placed (as seen on a new laptop I got recently, as the one I am using is good, but it's Windows 7). Unless I can make the other folder where I keep the emulator it's default folder on my laptop, then I am not sure how to fix it. I have not seen a lot of issues about SSF booting back to the bios with other games besides Panzer Dragoon Saga but this has been annoying me ever since I had gotten SSF on my laptop.

As for other games that have this issue, the only other game I can think of is (not surprisingly) Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, except rather than booting back to the bios screen, it doesn't load the save data correctly after changing the timer and difficulty in the options the first time.

I hope any help can be given. Thank you for your time.

Yup the game just does not work in SSF after saving settings in game

The same applied to 0.12 beta R4

You could try Yabause also but reports for that have the same results of it not working

Might as well just grab the arcade versions instead of those though

That is a shame. I'd like to enjoy the benefits of the Saturn version (Mainly Versus Mode stuff, like Handicaps, Stage Select, being able to change your characters after winning a match, and being able to pick two characters on the same team after beating the game once, even possible in Arcade Mode) but I guess I could use save states, but they take a while to save, and if I use CEP, the game's graphics might mess up (learned that with Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter) and with my fighting game skills, playing on 8 stars without save states is a challenge in itself.

    Thank you anyway.

You could always buy a pre owned Saturn and an Action Replay 4M Plus and either use a swap trick or use a simple swap trick and flash the AR4M+ with a little mod called PSEUDO that allows direct booting of backups

I am not sure what options the arcade version has in it's dip switch setting/bios setup for mame you get most options from Tab and F2 if I remember correctly, might be worth seeing if you can find a manual for the arcade version

edit manual attached, jump to page 16 (the numbered page is actually 13 it's just the 16th page is page 13 if you get my meaning)

what about the psx port that was the last released version of the game just after the Saturn version

The issue does not seem to be there in version 0.11 alpha R5 that can be found at http://www.geocities.jp/mj3kj8o5/ssf/files/index.html

It would be cool for me to get a Sega Saturn. And maybe invest in the virtua stick for optimal performance, but maybe one day.

As for the settings in the arcade version, they are okay but they only go so far. I guess I could play it if I am up for playing as Apocalypse using cheats.

And the psx version? The mirror tag match mode is kind of lame but if I do get the game, I am sure it will make for an interesting video.

So I guess my only option is to downgrade to the earlier version of SSF, until the issue can be found and fixed. Maybe in the next version of SSF I guess.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. And nice find on the arcade manual.
