Question Will a game work on a PS2 without those SYSTEM.CNF files?

I have downloaded SSX Tricky, and in the ISO file there were only VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and no other files..
I've tried to run it on the emulator and it worked.. will it work on my PS2 (NTSC) if I'll burn it?

The reason the ISO has those files is because it is ESR patched. It makes it seem like it is a dvd so it can play on PS2 consoles with FBMC installed. all the normal game files like SYSTEM.CNF are still there, just hidden. If you want the iso to turn back to normal, you can download the ESR program and unpatch the ISO to see the original files. Hope this helpes.

It will work with a mod chip and with the above mentioned softmod FBMC including the ESR mod, both are installed to a Memcard (preferably an official one), there is no need to un-patch it

ISO discs have at-least 2 descriptors on the discs ISO and UDF the ESR patch just changes the UDF descriptor from DATA to DVDVIDEO (that also should add a IFO descriptor that is VIDEO (The IFO descriptor only pops up after opening the UDF descriptor)) the ISO descriptor remains as DATA that has all the actual data files stored in it, the others are just different ways to describe what is on the disc, these are just fakes after patching, the disc has no actual folders or files in those even though it will show some.

If you want to see the full contents then just open the disc image with ISObuster and click on the ISO descriptor.

Look at the attachment to see what it looks like via ISObuster

If you have an older mod chip the patched copy may not work but most mod chip users don't have problems booting patched games and even if you have an older mod chip installing ESR might be a good thing as some of the older mod chips did not support disc swaps for the few multi disc games like Xenosaga 2 and 3 but ESR supports this just fine.
