need help installing PS3 CFW

I have a PS3 Slim from the god of war/Kill Zone bundle and i want to put custom firmware on it.

its on OFW 4.55 or whatever the one from the start of this month was ( updated it to grab a game from PSN unfortunately)

from what i am told it needs to be downgraded, I also want to buy a bigger hard drive to put in it (1-2 TB) would this need to be done before i mod it or is after doable?

I also have a PS3 Fat thats backwards compatible ( I believe its an 80GB) If my Slim isnt moddable then this will have to do (i prefer the slim however) as well as the same question of would the hard drive need to be upgraded before dowgrade/mod

and yes, I tried google but apparently i'm either blind or google illiterate because i cant find the answers

100X to 200X can be hacked some 250x can't be hacked though and 300X plus 400X can't be hacked

Do your own digging on exact models though I just gave you a wide outline on what can/can't be hacked

Myself I don't think I would want to do this, I get games every month for both the PS3 and PS Vita via a subscription for apx £40 a year for Playstration Plus, I do still buy games as well but not very often, infact I only own 1 game for the Vita as the ones I get from PS+ are enough to keep me going

ok, I will need to check the number on the console when i get home then. but what about the fat one? how do i go about downgrading/CFW installing that one?

Well, you can find lots of ps3 hacking tutorials/guides (as well asking for specific questions) at the PS3HAX, since this kind of stuff would require full understanding and extensive research before doing it,
not that I wouldn't recommend to post it here, but its much more appropriate to do it there (since I rarely seen anyone asking about it here), IMO.

There is also some kind of modchip thing called 3k3y. From the website description it looks nice but I never looked into it

Some quick info:

CFW can only be loaded on ps3's with OFW 3.55 or lower. Any site or software that claims otherwise is fake. Also there is no way to downgrade via software. Again any claims to this are fake. So the only method to install CFW on an OFW >3.55 is via a hardware flasher. Here is a list of downgradeable PS3's:

To avoid the cost and trouble of a hardware flasher you could check ebay or craigslist for downgrade services. Quite a bit cheaper than a hardware flasher.
