Default Converting one's savestate to another.

Hello. I've been doing a Fire Emblem LP and I just discovered VBA-M which have greater audio than the previous VBA. Now my problem is I want to use the save states that I have on the previous VBA version to the latest one, so I would not start from the beginning. Is this possible or do I have to start over?

My wai-fu, among many other wai-fu, and they are my current favorite. What? Too nerdy? Well, I think it is.

You usually can't transfer savestates to another emulator. But for GBA you can use the normal "battery save" and transfer it to any other emulator. on vba savestates are in .sgm format while battery saves are in .sav format iirc.

A perfect example is dolphin. Even a change in revision stops save states from working. But that's of course to stop it from crashing.

Old thread re hashed but for more info

Save states do not just store game states but also the emulators state this includes settings used at the time of creation so even changing a setting a reloading a save state will revert all your changes

Because save states save the state the emulator and not just game data then this makes then useless is other emulators and usually in other revisions of the same emulator as well

save states should never be used exclusively if you do use save states and you can do a normal in-game save then do both, if there is no in-game save features and something goes wrong and a emulation settings need changing then you must start a fresh game after the settings are changed as loading a save state will reverse what was changed.
