Best be quick. As soon as Sony finds an exploit to their console, they release an update.
Either you have to buy one as soon as an exploit is found or Sony is going to add a mandatory update as soon as you connect to a wifi (most likely.)

    Sony doesn't force updates.

If you want to play newer games, you MUST update. Nothing optional about it.

They don't force you to download them upon connecting to the internet though .

    Yet...

    Don't setup wifi lol

I don't know if any console forces updates on you

I know the 3DS doesn't unless you setup autoupdates

But even if you did have it on you can turn wifi off untill you are ready for an update if you use a flash kit and just keep on top of news posts about updates and flash kit compat

So even if sony had set there consoles so you have auto updates and you hacked it/modded it in one form or another then just turn the wifi off

I would imagine that if sony implimented such a thing then hackers would just diable that with there hacked firmware, a bit like what wii hackers done and psp hackers done so you needn't have the latest firmware and game updaters don't force updates

Though that is a point, didn't UMD games force the update before you could play em as much as online updates for whatever you get from the PSN, you updates are asked but you still need those to play x game, unless you hack it anyway

I hope they actually release more decent games than the PSP for PSV cause I'm not going to buy a system just to play a single game.
