New to DC Burning

So I'm rather experienced when it comes to burning and playing games on many other game consoles, the Dreamcast though, it appears to be my nemesis. I've got through almost 15 CD-Rs trying to get Jet Grind Radio to work. I've tried multiple versions of the Utopia Boot disc (1.5 and 1.1) and I've tried burning both discs in a multiple of ways. The farthest I can get it to go is getting the Utopia to boot and asking me to put in a Backup CD, once I do the Reindeer (Or is it a moose?) turns silver and a disc behind it appears, however it keeps pausing while doing this randomly and never makes it past this screen. Also I have an NTSC-1 Dreamcast and I fear this could be part of the issue. I have been using Disc Juggler with the mentioned settings for burning Self-Booting and Non-Self-Booting discs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't mention any settings as far as I can see from your solid block of text

basic rules though

Set over burn on
Set burn speed to lowest

thats it for settings everything else can be left on default

If you are using a demo ignore the burn limited to 700MB or something like that, might be 600MB

If asked to repair say no

You can also use ImgBurn nowerdays aswell for cdi images if you have the discjuggler driver in the same folder as ImgBurn... I'll give you the DL links in a min with a small guide... actually an old post I'm trying to find

ImgBurn 2.5.5.0 or higher now can burn cdi images (DiscJuggler)

You require the PfcToc.dll to be in the install folder of ImgBurn that you can get from here the official Padus DiscJuggler site

ImgBurn was great anyway for so many console burning needs, now it covers Dreamcast, not only cdi but also via multi sessions with cue sheets (e.g. cue+bin or cue+img)

You have atleast got that rather pointless boot CD Utopia working atleast

Getting a self-booting version of the game is easier than messing with a boot disc for sure. Not sure why that wouldn't start up. Could be your dreamcast. First thing to go on the laser reader is the ability to read burned discs. Have you taken it apart and try tinkering with it? I had one that wasn't reading burned games and I cleaned out the inside and toyed with the laser and it works fine 100% now. I don't use Disc Juggler or Utopia (I have Gameshark and Gameshark Lite) so idk anything about that.

Dreamcast versions, Mil-CD/Selfboot Compatibility Check that out aswell

There is a small chance that your Dreamcast only works with Data/Data burns

P.S. I don't have any none selfbooting/none Mil-CD dreamcast games all of mine are Mil-CD selfbooting

When I mentioned settings I mean the ones like

Mode 1
Offset 0
Block...2048
TOC....CD-ROM
For Non-Self-Boots and

Mode 2
Offset 0
Block....2336
TOC......CD-XA
For Self-Boots.

I'll double check for Overburn and I have been clicking no to the repair option. I downloaded a Self-Booting version of JGR and we'll see how well this goes over. Also I have already read your guides, they were most helpful.

You can try using ImgBurn instead making sure you have the dll from Attachment 22457 in the same folder ImgBurn installs to

again mostly default options except burn speed and maybe over burn

I've only got 2 discs left after this one so if this doesn't work I'll try ImgBurn. I'm far more familiar with that than DiscJuggler.

have you looked at the cd image to see if it is a self boot and the type of self boot it is.. i.e. data session/data session or cdda session/data session

Finally got it to work. Had to get a Self-Booting version. Now that I know how to make them it should be easy. Your guides were most hopeful.
