I cant get the save feature to work in any Sega CD emulator

I have tried everything trying to get the save feature to work on Gens and Fusion. I like Fusion better. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I just can't seem to get the internal ram to work. I read the FAQ that came with the emulator but I just can't get it to work like he says. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Save states are not supported for SEGA CD games yet, just like it says in the message that pops up each time you try to save a SEGA CD state.

I'm not using save state. I know its not supported. I'm wanting to use the in game save. The in game save is what I can't get to work. I'm wanting to play Lunar for Sega CD. Its kinda hard when you can't save.

Formating CD System/External Memory:-
Load the CD game from the File drop down and Open Rom... and when you see the Sega CD/Mega CD Logo and asked to press Start on your pad, press B on your Pad instead and then go to Memory and there you can format both the Built in Memory and the Cartridge Memory.

That's from my Gens Guide but Fusion works just the same
