According to their initial blog post, the way in which the attackers gained access to Microsoft's systems was through a password spray attack, then gaining access to a portion of corporate Microsoft email accounts

Serves them right for using email on a Windows server, accessed from devices running on Windows that may or may not be connected to IoT at home or in the office at work. And for buying Bethesda assimilating like the Borg as Bill Gate's business model legacy.
