It really sucks when things like that happen.
Usually when big changes like that happen the show changed networks. JAG season 1 (NBC) is very different from the seasons after (CBS).
While I generally enjoyed Stargate there is a pretty big difference between the Showtime and Syfy seasons. Honestly could have done without season 9/10.

JAG had a decent plot developing and then CBS got it. I can watch the final two seasons of SG-1, but it should've ended at S8. The Showtime seasons were definitely better overall.
