    Default nforce2 + nvidia driver

    i just got nforce2 based mobo.
    the problem is, i was using nvidia 30.82 xp driver and it just crashed right away. (couldn't go to windows). it's the blue screen(sort of like when you have memory problem, and it just crash, and ask you to restart or shutdown).
    so i'm just wondering, which driver can i use for this?

    specs:

    asus A7N8X + athlon 2500+
    geforce 2 GTS 64 DDR

    do i need nforce platform driver instead?

    well first of all you are waaaaaay behind in driver updates.....nforce is on 43.45 now so go to nvidia.com and try that first....after that tell me what happens.

    Your new motherboard didn't ship with a driver disc? It should have... and because that Asus board is fairly new, the disc should contain the most recent drivers.

    yeah it did give me the disc.
    but the thing is that somebody here told me before that i should use the 30.82 since my geforce is pretty old.
    that's why best to use with that one.
    so i guess better to use the newest one?

    EDIT

    actually what's the unified driver?
    is it like the package drivers?
    i installed that (from the link from first post), and it's supposed to give 41.13 display drivers but it didn't.

    i tried the cd but it didn't seem to update either.
    well..from hardware->display->driver, the version is 5.1.2001.0 and dated 7/1/2001

    hum...it's weird. everything is a little bit choppy.
    like say, i can't click on anything for about 2-3 sec, then back to normal. suddenly it happens again, and continue in this manner for no definite time. it's like something is not compatible and slows down the system.
    is it due to using pc2100 ram with 333 mobo?

    got 1.83 Ghz athlonXP , 768 pc2100 DDR ram, and 64 DDR gf GTS.
    i don't think it should be this slow.
    even rarely happened before with the older mobo.

    When you go to the display panel and head to the advanced Nvidia properties is it all green like the new Nvidia drivers?

    sorry. i'm not sure what you meant by "green".
    basically after i installed the unified nforce driver, it doesn't have the opengl, direct3d settings, etc.

    Go to Asus' website and browse their drivers. They should have individual drivers for your particular Asus board. You can use an older Geforce display driver if need be, but update your RAID, audio, etc.

    yeah ok. but just before i do that, i need to make something clear.
    what exactly the difference between unified driver and graphics driver ?
    unified contains graphics driver, and others as well(such as network, sound, etc)?

    Well from the first link you have provided we can see that:

    * Audio driver 3.17 (WHQL)
    * Audio utilities 3.17
    * Network driver 3.13 (WHQL)
    * GART driver 2.78 (WHQL)
    * SMBus driver 2.75 (WHQL)
    * Memory controller driver 2.75 (WHQL)
    * IDE driver 2.70 In The Box (WHQL)
    * Display Drivers 41.13 (WHQL)

    Are all updated. Whereas with the second link only the actual display driver is updated. Where possible I would always go with the unified driver.

    Think of it like someone with a Via Chipset needing to install 4 in 1s and display drivers, you have both in one neat little package

    yea that's what i was thinking.
    but then i didn't see 41.13 graphics driver alone.
    and after installing this unified driver, there were no extra utils where you can set your opengl/direct3d performance/quality that you get with the graphics driver alone.
    that's why i was kind of confused.

    yeah i could use that.
    the problem is that somebody here(couldn't remember who) pointed out that the best driver for my gf2 GTS is 30.82. but this doesn't work with the new nforce2 mobo.
    so i got the nforce2 unified driver.
    now, this latest driver, would it be good for my graphics card? i mean in terms of performance wise

    What that one you can try it if ya want but I would recomend using the latest myself

    The newer one will run faster and I know myself it is compatable with the newer nvidia Motherboards as I have a NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset with MCP-T on my motherboard myself and a GeForce2 MX400 64MB SDRAM (TV-Out) Graphics card sounds A.P.X. the same as yours (I do have a few different things but basicly the same)

    So if that works for me (And it's fast) I don't see why it shouldn't for you.

    Anyway good luck hopes you get it working soon and with speed

    And why would an older driver be compatable with the nForce2 chipset anyway you got a retarded recomendation maybe if you were on an older motherboard that may have been good advice but not this time.

    You can and proble have now anyway get all the latest drivers for your nForce2 chip set aswell but that will not effect your graphics directly anyway but it will help.

    Having the latest version of Direct X is also a huge factor aswell when it comes to graphics drivers.
