That depends. Are you on a budget or do you want to build the most blazing PC possible? If you are on a budget, tell me the maximum amount you are willing to spend.
Regardless, that is a good PC for anyone... gamers, programmers, and media encoders alike. You can't go wrong with Abit. That is a great company. 512MB of RAM is sufficient and your CPU is a good combination of price/performance. The only major additions you need are a new video card, and perhaps a sound card if you are an audiophile like me and you can't bear the standard on-board 6 channel audio.

Well I orders all that already and I only had a budget of 340.00 and used every penny just about on the above.
There was other stuff that looked like it could be better so what I have settled for is the best I could out of what I had in the way cash.
Hmm I actually liked the sound of 5.1 audio. better than sounds cards I have had in the past.
But yeah

340! Wow, you just worked all of that under budget. Good job. That is the best you can get for that price.

glad ya think so all I realy need now is a new Graphics card,
but like I said I will just have to wait for that.
I havn't even started looking yet I think I will get some advice on the Card as some of the GeForce 4 cards are not even as good as my GeForce 2 in alot of ways (I'm not even talking about the TV-Out bit either)
I will be sticking to nVIDIA I think for the graphics though
Well anything just about is better than the PC I am on now my lil PIII 450 Slot 1 with the max I can have of memory 256mb and a slow 12gig HD.

to the best of my knowledge, this is mine:
Windows 2000 Professional
Intel Pentium III 450 MHz(?)
Geforce4 MX 440 (PNY Verto)
Gamesurround Muse LT Sound Card
196MB ram
4.3GB and 40GB hard drives
IBM LG CRD-8400B CD-ROM drive
Small crappy Monitor...
You might just want to use the nForce2' integrated grahpics instead of your Geforce 2 in the meantime. It's performance is likely equal to the Geforce 2, though I have not seen comparative benchmarks.Originally posted by Zorlon

You will never see comparitive benchmarks as the nVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset with MCP-T is not intergated graphics
This is what nVIDIA say about the chipset I will have:-
Introducing the NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 and NVIDIA nForce2 400
The NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 incorporates dual 400MHz DDR controllers, delivering twice the bandwidth of typical DDR chipsets, an optimized 128-bit architecture, and 400MHz frontside bus (FSB) support for unparalleled performance. The NVIDIA nForce2 400 relies on a single 64-bit memory channel to deliver 400 MHz FSB and 400MHz DDR performance to the mainstream.
NVIDIA nForce2 unleashes blistering system performance and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio for today's most demanding users. Combine it with an NVIDIA-based performance graphics card, and you've got a PC for the most tricked-out performance and immersive gaming environments ever experienced on a desktop PC.
Look for the latest NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 platform processors powering the ultimate gaming platforms. Incorporating dual 400 MHz DDR memory controllers, a 128-bit architecture, and 400MHz frontside bus (FSB) support, the NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 eliminates system bottlenecks and speeds up applications so you can play harder and faster.
Unmatched system performance: NVIDIA nForce2 delivers blistering platform performance through patent-pending system technologies, a revolutionary memory architecture--including DualDDR memory controllers--and high-bandwidth connectivity solutions.
Screaming graphics: Combine the system performance of NVIDIA nForce2 with the latest NVIDIA-based add-in card for ferocious 3D graphics power. The NVIDIA nForce2 architecture also provides an AGP 8X graphics slot, so that users can upgrade to to the most powerful GPU solutions available.
NVIDIA SoundStorm cinematic quality 3D positional audio: NVIDIA SoundStorm, part of the NVIDIA nForce2 audio processing unit (APU) encodes audio in Dolby Digital 5.1 format for full surround sound effects, and processes up to 256 simultaneous audio streams to drive your home theater experience.
Ultimate connectivity: NVIDIA StreamThru technology combined with a chip-to-chip HyperTransport interface delivers the fastest and smoothest video and audio streaming. The NVIDIA nForce2 MCP-T also includes integrated DualNet Ethernet controllers, up to six USB 2.0 ports, Ultra ATA133 connections, and a FireWire port, providing the ultimate in networking and digital connectivity.
Not that I know what all that means but I do know that, the motherboard that I'll be getting doesn't have the graphics built in.

AMD *Retail* Opteron 242 64Bit CPU with AMD Heat Sink Fan 3Yr but there like 521.24 or 612.46 with the VAT added plus you will need a motherboard that can take em and thats another costly effort and way out of my budget I payed 2 3rds of that and got a Motherbord, CPU ,120 gig HD and 1x 512 (400mb) mem chip.
AMD Opteron may be cool but HOW MUCH (If only I was rich LOL)

I guess it's a bit late now...but you should have gone w/ 2 sticks of 256 mb instead of 1 stick of 512 mb. The nForce supports dual bandwidth for the memory which means the memory runs fastest in pairs.
I got the 1 512 running at 400 in preperation to get another one LOL just costs to much for me to get 2 with in the bulk of the rest
