Default xDSL (Linux) Help installing apps & gaining FTP access.

#1. FTP. I've tried gaining FTP access with "BetaFTP" then connecting to dsl/xbox in details. Does not connect.

#2. How exactly do you install apps under SL?

    Total Linux n00b here.

its a modified DSL Linux http://www.damnsmalllinux.org and this means that it is Debian. I don't know SL but in debian you install apps like dpkg -i "appname".deb or with synaptic http://www.nongnu.org/synaptic/ but you have to edit the /etc/sources.list first

Gaining FTP access first is a must for me, since my DVD drive in teh Xbox does NOT read most DVD+R discs. So I cannot burn files to a disc and browse for them in Linux.

I tried to enable apt, after doing the second step. And the Xbox locked up

Yes. But my SMB stopped working almost straight after it STARTED working.
EDIT: Whenever I install apt the Xbox locks up.

What about setting up a workgroup and using XBMC to access it?

I've got XMSB I think it is, share in XBMC, and I can access it in XBMC. But I can't access it through SL.

    I don't recommend SL.
I also love the ability to stream files from the PC to Xbox.
    And I see your point.

My XLink Kai does not work, but I'm assuming that's what you were talking about?
