the original is pretty good not nearly as hard as it seems the levels are kinda big later on so it can be a bit tedious at times.

I'm the in the middle of DN3D and I stalled because it feels like a bit of a slog. If I could have more modern style controls I wouldn't mind so much.

You can always ignore non-essential updates .

hard to ignore when M$ thinks all the updates are "essential"
I finally managed to get it up to date this morning, it's annoying as hell when it takes 30min to 1hr just to check for updates and I have to download smaller amounts of files at a time otherwise it tends to bug out and stall the download indefinitely.
I know my net isn't super fast but in't not dial-up fucking slow either, at least now I can get back to the games I was playing the other night.

Does that version of Windows have any service packs? I always skimmed over the update info to determine whether or not it mattered, back when we had a say in the matter .

I don't think so but I'm not sure. all I know for sure is that I've downloaded around 3gb of updates 90% of which were "important" updates the other 10% were "recommended" updates(like the net framework updates)

They don't have stuff labelled "service pack 2" or whatever anymore. That stopped years ago.
You'll just see version updates like (eg): November 2021 update (21H2) <- this will have a build number.

    Did you install 8.1?
Support for that ends next year.

I've always had aero disabled no matter what OS. I prefer the traditional look (also only used metro until I could get rid of it).
