I was actually curious what the prices are like now and even the lower end One S consoles have shot way up.

I'm seeing prices of 299 and 399 and more. Amazon way higher than that. And one Walmart add said 1499 (wtf?!!?) unless they made a typo. Like holy shit.

I got mine for 179.99 provided I got the 2 year warranty which was another 100 and even combined that's still much lower than some ads I've seen. And by ads I mean legitimate shops and not used ones by greedy people on Craigslist or whatever.

The prices are all over the place.
I've seen used series s cheaper (quite a few times) than used XB1X going rate atm.
Used XB1S digital is the cheapest besides used launch XB1.

Sometimes there are good used deals for XB1S but it's rare for XB1X.
Series X prices are crazy dumb. Even used.
Although I did see a broken series X the other day, auction start at around $200aud.

Yeah but these are prices for new consoles at places like bestbuy, walmart, eb games etc. It's ridiculous how higher they've gotten in the last few years. Is it this microchip shortage thing going on?

that would be far more reasonable.

You're forgetting how expensive consoles got in the late 90's.
Remember the PS1 when it was still basically new? It was way more expensive than what we paid for out brand new XB1S consoles
    Like 3 times the price.

I think we were a bit spoilt for some years what with Sony and M$ competing with home consoles, but over here M$ was always better value across all gens.
Nintendo is never cheap over here. Vita never got dirt cheap here it just quietly died and vanished.

But yeah those chip prices are killing everything. Even prices for handheld screen mods have gone up and it isn't just because of the chips, it's the panels too.
I have a bunch of gameboys here that need mods and have 2x Lynx on the way. Can't do much with them atm, just too expensive

nintendo is always expensive it doesn't help that they rarely drop their prices. forgot to mention scalpers add to the high cost as well.

There are some other things that have increased in price due to lack of supply.
Here's an example of certain vehicles increasing value beyond new retail price

LandCruisers lead the surge in second-hand vehicle values

    When will the madness stop?

Should probably look for a 16TB external at some point, not now though. Prices aren't great for drives like they were years ago.
Prices surged up when the storage mining crap popped up.

Samsung and the other DRAM companies have manipulated the market more than once. Maybe the rest of the chip companies want a piece of the scam pie .

    Ok so CoD MW installed.
    Base game is 98.7GB
The other packs are only just over 6GB total.

So it isn't as big as Halo master chief collection (138GB).
