I've heard about a lot of fakes and ones that don't work. Nothing reputable has come down the line as far as I've seen so far. Drat! Securom has won a minor early victory. The pirates will take the war as a whole very soon first, though I still don't like this. :\ The time they're taking is enough to convince the publishers/other publishers that Securom is the way to go.

The majority of the profitable sales of a new game come at the release and immediate following weeks. The goal of software like securom is to hold off available cracks as long as possible so that initial profitable period's sales are not harmed. Up until that crack comes out, the PC version of Bioshock is essentially unpiratable. It's been eight days so far that Bioshock has been out on the market without a crack, which is viewed by the publishers as a big success, considering lots of new games anymore have a crack and a leaked copy of the game out on the net before the legit copy is on store shelves.
Of course, the actual influence PIRACY has on those sales is highly variable and wildly exaggerated most of the time. I for one am highly skeptical of any industry claims on piracy hurting business. Take for example, the movie industry, which recently blaimed 6 billion dollars of loss on piracy. However, the porn movie industry is still posting record profits. It's a fairly basic and easy assumption to make to believe that porn is just as piratable and just as likely to be pirated by someone inclined to get his movies for free as Hollywood's fare, and yet the porn industry isn't fazed in the least bit.
