just one...that's hard,I was going to say "xenogears" or "final fantasy 8",but since they are already mentioned,I'll name "final fantasy 6" as my favorite,I remember the first time I played it as the most fun time I had with a rpg,I never enjoyed PLAYING a rpg as much as I did back then. Sure,I love ff8,I'm still obsessed with it,I like the story,I still can't listen to "eyes on me" without going "booooooo hooooooo!" while I remember the ending, etc etc,
and about xenogears,I'm still kinda obsessed with it too,I got sucked by the story and the universe and I still think about fei and elly as "real people" and I care about them,BUT as I said before,if I judge everything, including having fun while playing it,final fantasy 6 wins.
ff8's gameplay can be kinda frustrating and irritating some times, and xenogears has a flaw, the infamous "switch to slideshow mode" in disc 2,so it's not perfect.
    nothing

Morrowind! haven't played Oblivion yet, but I imagine it's almost as good. Granted it lacks the Alternate endings of the co-best RPG Chrono Trigger, but the whole story can be changed by killing the right people, you can be a vampire, the fact that you can kill everybody on the whole map, along with a few of their Gods, makes this absolutely the best rpg anywhere. You can cruise through in a day or 2 or literally spend months getting to know the whole map and everyone in it, having a stronghold built, making uber magic items... and from what I hear, the X box version pwns the PC so get that first.

well i have a 360 and oblivion. I have been a fan of the elder scrolls for years and in my opinion morrowind GOTYE was the best of them all. Oblivion is great for the graphics and of course the extra's they added but morrowind was better because i just thought it was harder and more challenging.

    and keep the RPG's comin

Final FUCKING Fantasy 6, best game for SNES, only sharing the title with Chrono Trigger. Which I like a lot...but say, Chrono has a 100 on me, but FF6 has a 101.

I remember the part when the Floating Continent crashes...I remember it was a sunday night, and my mom was hurrying me to sleep, I was like...7 or 8 back then, but when that happened I was very surprised, then, when Celes is in the shack with Cid and you leave to see the map, that organ music starts playing with that eerie wind sound.

Then, I saved and went to sleep.

I know it's a game, but I really felt like: "What happened...?" Where's everyone?" While the music still played in my mind.
No game so far has made me feel like that.

replay value... just can't touch ff6 anymore... chrono good...

I'd rather play Secret of Mana than FF6. Not that it wasn't good the first couple times, but now I get to Ruin and it just dies for me. but yes, I felt the same way the first time.

Final Fantasy IX is the best RPG ever for me... Sakaguchi said its his fave too.. The quality of story and character development is just splendid..
    ..
    ..
Then there's also FFV and VI..
    ..
    ..
    Arc the Lad II
    ..
    ..
    Suikoden II
    ..
    ..
No PS2 RPGs come close to the quality of older games these days..
