No, Cyber, his lies weren't harming anyone. What they were doing was causing people to pity him. And if there's one thing I hate, more than anything else in this world, it's people who need to feel pity from others to feel good about themselves. That's why you'll never see me on here, spilling my guts and crying to the forums about my latest fuck-up or string of bad luck.
Time to go grill up a couple bratwurst. Back in a few.
THIS IS SPARTAAAA!
also, my DS is sexy, and fat, and red, and sexy...
Techno remixes can dies in the fires of hell.
I'll know, because I'm be dining there.
"Sparta, party of 300?"
Whoops, that's me. Gotta run.
Yeah, I can dig that dude. Trust me when I say that I considered that. Even still, that's our hangup, and we can't hold him responsible for not living up to our standards.
See, IMO, he would've been worse off had you not exposed him, because by then he would've become so ingrained into the community that any betrayal would've had him ostracized, at least by those who came to trust him, and you wouldn't come off looking like an asshole for taking up the sword in a crusade that really didn't need to be fought. You could've gone on not liking him, having your suspicions about the validity of his claims, and it wouldn't have harmed anyone. The only thing that would've come out of it for you, is that you would've had to deal with biting your tongue about it all. A test of your willpower, if you will.
Now, his public lynching isn't something I would've liked to have happened mind you. I'm not endorsing wholesale hatred of our members. I'm just trying to illustrate to you that had you let events run their natural course, he likely would've been exposed sooner or later anyway, and would likely have been worse off for it, and you would've been able to come in at the ass end of it and say "HAH! I fucking knew it!", and probably wouldn't have been judged all that harshly for giving him crap for it then.
