    Default Pokemon FireRed

Hello, I'm new here. I have this problem when playing Pokemon FireRed on the VisualBoyAdvance, it's that after the Elite Four when you're supposed to turn the game off and on to restart the game, I just get sent back to my last save point (before Champ). Is there any way around this or am I stuck?

Have you been using save states to save or the in-game save feature?

You must be able to use the in-game save after you beat the Elite Four. Did the game have any problems saving before it reset? Any error messages?

None. In fact I just waited for it to end. You know you're supposed to turn off / turn on the game? Yeah, there's no "reset" button for the VBA, so if you cancel program and reopen it obviously doesn't work... So I'm kinda lost.

Yes there is. Go to options and you'll see it, or you can use the ctrl+r shortcut to activate the option without going to the options menu.

Heh... I never realised there was a reset... Oh yeah, what if you DO have a problem with the in-game save. Can you still continue playing?

No, not if the in-game save won't load for whatever reason.

"The 1M sub-circuit board is not installed." is the reason given in the game. Downloaded the Rom from EmuParadise. And... For some reason I can't DL the vba_over file from the website as well.

That is an issue that VBA has where it can't detect the correct save type. This includes all games that contain EEPROM (DragonBall Z games) and 128K Flash (Pokemon games). The examples aren't the only games that have this problem but they are used to give you an idea.

Check out the link below for more information about this problem.

Note that that post is by me on 1emulation and is a bit jumbled but it has helped a lot of people with this problem.

You can download vba-over.ini from here, if you still want it:

Ah, thanks SegNin. Erm... If despite following all the instructions (including the vba_over ones) given I still cannot save in game... What's the problem that is occurring?

You have to first delete all the old saves, put vba-over.ini in the VBA folder, then start a new game from the beginning.

Sorry, but there's no other way to do it if you want to continue and finish the game.

You have to delete all the Pokemon FireRed .sav and .sgm files.

The reason you have to delete your games is because VBA will still try to use the save type that was used to create the save file it loads. Since the save file you currently have (which was create shortly after you loaded the rom in VBA even though you never actually saved in-game) was using the 64K Flash type then VBA will continue to use that type. The vba-over.ini setting only work for new saves and after that VBA will continue to use the save type in the save file.
