    ive done the math, the maximum amount of water level that the melting of all ice on earth would cause, is around 15ft... O.o

    clearly enough to make some coastline disapear, but not NEARLY enough to cause any drowning...

    and i did theese calculations with an estimation that glaciers covered 15% of the worlds surface area, that they were an average of 5 miles wide, and that approximately 25% of the water would be absorbed by the slope of the land, so it would be 20ft if all of the land on earth were steep cliffs. but they arent...

    so global warming is complete bullocks... ty for your time.
    you did remember to factor in that glaciers are MUCH larger under the water than they look right?

    yes, but they are nowhere NEAR 5miles deep and 15% of the earths surface...

    more like an average of 1 mile, and around 5% if that of the earths surface.

    this is early in the morning so i might be wrong but wouldnt the water level drop if the glaciers melted because water is 9/10 the size of ice

    edit: they'll just freeze up again...it's happened before (ice age)

    nope ice takes 9/10 the size of water...

    we are thinking in a time when the earth never gets 32 degrees, its always above freezing.

    ice block, that is 90 liters, melts, it becomes 100 liter of water...

    the water level goes up 11%

    Edit: errouneously had grams instead of liters.

    uh i think i need to go back to sleep cuz nothins clickin here

    "This solid state(water) is not as dense as liquid water because of the geometry of the hydrogen bonds which are formed only at lower temperatures. For almost all other substances the solid form has a greater density than the liquid form."

    YES, and because ice is not as dense as water it has a greater volume when it melts...

    water volume=100ml/mass 100g=1density
    ice voume=92ml/mass 100g=0.92density

    okay, ice->water

    ice=92ml volume, 100g mass...
    it melts
    the new water=100ml volume, 100g mass...

    see, 92-100volume...

    Your mom will end the world. That or Lee. Math? On EP? GAHHH!!!!

    *regains composure*

    Damn near anything could potentially cause the end of the world. It'll probably be something stupid and totally avoidable if it's the result of people and/or man-made events. Although natural disasters and the like are also highly possible.

    As for this poll, I checked everything short of race. Since it seems somewhat unlikely (at least the way I see it) that race will cause a GLOBAL issue that will result in the end of the world. Unless we're talking about a race that is separated from other people simply based on the prevalent religion or something of that nature.

    I could be wrong of course. It's happened before.

    Yo Lee. It's just easier to remember that you only see 1/10 (10%) of the iceberg if you where to see it. so it'll be easier for you to do the math with this tidbit of info. (Don't know if you knew this or posted this yet)

    hmm, intresting point, you know its because of the density difference right(density and % you see are the same)?

    but anyways, i did a worst case, completely un real calculation to show how much bullocks the glaciers melting really was.

    Probably some natural disaster, large enough to wipe out 99% of life from Earth. Which is why I added 'Other' as the last option.

    Global warming is more then just glaciers. Its the climate changing, RIVERS flooding, not just oceans, lakes, rain adding to that, storms, ruining food supplies, fresh water, and a liveable planet. So dont just assume glaciers is all that global warming changes. And for those who say .6 degrees change or whatever the hell it is isnt a lot over the past however many years, know that it is an average change. It could change just a degree in one area, and yet 10 degrees in others, which is a huge difference.
