Do you really think that the Great Wall or Chichen Itza, to name some of them are not major achievements?

Wasn't the great wall on the LAST list of seven wonders?
As I was walking down the stair,
    I met a man who wasn't there.
    He wasn't there again today.
    I wish, I wish he'd go away.

Not in the original list, which it's being revised now.
See why the Great Pyramid of Giza was excluded and not the Great Wall.

Stonehenge should be a world wonder. If it isn't already.

I'll do my best to care once UNESCO's involved.

In the mean time, I'm holding a vote on what the best brand of tomato soup is. Aren't you guys excited?!

Shush, Skinner is our wonder, the rest of the world don't need to know about him. We won't share him with anyone anyways.

Emirates Arena perhaps? Better yet, Santiago Bernabeu

No, seriously, it doesn't have any official backing. It's a private project, and I for one have never heard of this NewOpenWorld Foundation before.

I see what's your point and I agree with you, but we already knew this was a private initiative so it's not that they are trying to confuse people or something.
It would have been nice to see a similar initiative from UNESCO based on their scientific criteria, perhaps an election like this would not be too scientific since it's the people's choice, but atleast the result of all of this could be an educational campaign to let everyone know some of the most important monuments we have. There's nothing wrong in letting the people give their opinion about it, even if it's through internet.

Well the results are up. I'm actually surprised that Petra made it in the end. As a personal preference I would've preferred to see Stonehenge, Easter Islands or that German castle instead of Petra, but it's not bad to have something out of your country become a wonder.

In short, come to Petra! We've whores!

Yup, here are the New Seven Wonders:

    Chichén Itzá, Mexico
    Christ Redeemer, Brazil
    The Great Wall, China
    Machu Picchu, Peru
    Petra, Jordan
    The Roman Colloseum, Italy
    The Taj Mahal, India

It's a pity that the Alhambra wasn't elected.. atleast I'm glad to see Chichén Itzá, the Great Wall and theTaj Mahal there.

The only ones that are remotely wonderous out of that is the great wall, christ redeemer, and the colloseum....
What about machu picchu makes it a wonder? It's just an abandoned city in the mountains. There's gotta be a million and three of those all around the world.
Even for Christ redeemer, the statue of liberty is 50 feet taller and more visually impressive, as well as having an arguably more important significance.
