I hate that version. I use 1.5.3beta, and I get 200-300KBps on average. I had the same problem with versions higher than 1.5.3. Jackhammer seems to have good luck with higher versions though...
It's sped up a bit. It's strange, the downloading of the newsgroup list and the indexes for the groups went a lot faster in outlook express.
