Default I Need Help Concerning My Windows 98

Well I was reinstalling my Windows 98 SE over my old one because windows was giving me a bunch of "Illegal Operations" and "Blue Screens", but while I was installing it it crashed when it was at 65% , what i'm saying is that Windows did not finish installing Windows!, and now some of the stuff on my computer arent working, like my Audio, right now anything that would make a sound isnt making a sound cause the DLL didnt get installed, I tried to install it again, but it froze again at 65%, I was told by Sephries to talk to Ganondorf cause he knows alot, so getting back to the problem, when I hit the power bar to turn of my computer(cause it crashed), when I turned it on again it said Windows did not fully install you should click "Safe Recovery" when prompt, if you were installing froms Windows, type WIN and install again"

Well I did type win when I started from DOS and it still stopped at 65%, but Im having a hard time finding out how to run a "Safe Recovery" so can you please help me out

    My comp specs are

    AMD K-6 II
    Windows 98 Special Edition
    Direct X 8.1(The newest one)
    500 MHz
    56MB RAM
    10GB HD

I am not certain, but there might be a problem with Win SE. Doesn't the special edition version of Win 98 require a bit more powerful cpu?

    You working Dave? Just curious.

Okay, I didn't think SE would be a problem. Ganon might have to answer your question though.

it's a hard one, and bit difficult to give explanation without being on the spot. but complete reinstallation could help you. beware that you will lose 90% of your installed programs, they wont run because whole registry database would be deleted by reinstallation and then formed again, together with any system files (such as dll-s, vxd-s, sys-s, ini-s). do this :

    - when os starts to boot press F8, and choose "command prompt only" from the boot menu

    - make sure that you have windows 98 se installation on your hdd

    - type "deltree windows" (without quotas), and press Y.

    - type "del setuplog.txt", "del netlog.txt"

and then run the installation again.

    Default 65%

Obviously if Gan's suggestion doesn't work it has to be the cd if it keeps getting stuck on 65% or on that sector on the cd, your cd maybe baddly buffed or scratched and if you want it fixed the I would say get the "skip doctor" cd repair kit. Or try out one of your friends windows 98 se cd's to see if theirs work.

    1. Did you get an error message when the installation was at 65% complete?
    2. Did your mouse freeze and were you not able to hit esc to cancel your installation?
    3. Have you waited about 1 hour and 30min for the installation to complete?

Graphics, and 3D polygons don't make great games, story-lines do!!
