    Question Tomb Raider 1 Issues

So I've searched the forums for about two and a half hours trying to get my Tomb Raider game to work that I DL from EP. After finding out about the Daemon tools thing and all that, I opened epsxe, clicked run cdrom to play it and it started, but when it gets to the end of the Eidos screen, everything goes away and this blue error message pops up, then half a second later my computer is restarting. I tried at least 3 times to play it again, just to see if it was a one time problem but ut wasn't.

Can anyone help me with this?

I've never been able to get Tomb Raider to work on ePSXe but I have gotten it to work in pSX The Emulator.
    http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/
Versions 1.8 and higher have CDDA support and that is what Tomb Raider was missing for the longest with this emulator. It will only work if you run it from a mounted image or directly with an image. Using a real disc will give you the same results as ePSXe is giving you now.

If you installed the old 3.47 version of Daemon Tools, and got a blue screen, then uninstall it, and try the latest version:
    http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/down...tegory&catid=5

Remember to NOT install the included adware which was added to more recent versions (that option is given during the installation process)

Or you could just use pSXfin like Haldrie suggested, but the game will work with ePSXe if you use Daemon Tools.

    edit--

There's also a CD plugin (CDR Mooby) that works just like a virtual drive.
Since Daemon Tools always works for me, I've never bothered with it, but it should work too.
    Get it from here:

Thanks, I'll try them both out and get back to you guys.

    EDIT:

Neither way worked for me. When I DL the recent daemon tools the game seemed to skip around and then half the screen turned pink. When I dl the psxemulator it said I needed an iso when the tomb raider files are all mdf and mds.

Why is this so confusing and how do you guys get so good at recognizing these problems?

Did you also try the CDR Mooby plugin with ePSXe?

Also for ePSXe, go to Config > Video > Configure > Copy settings to clipboard > and paste them to your next reply.

pSX only supports CloneCD (ccd/img/sub), cue/bin and iso formats. For Alcohol (mds/mdf) images you will have to mount them with Daemon Tools and run the game from the virtual drive.

    Here they are:

    Plugin: P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.1.17
Author: Pete Bernert and the P.E.Op.S. team

    Resolution/Color:
    - 640x480 Window mode
    Stretch mode: 0
    Dither mode: 0

    Framerate:
    - FPS limit: on
    - Frame skipping: off
    - FPS limit: Auto

    Misc:
    - Scanlines: disabled
    - Game fixes: off [00000000]

[Haldrie] That's what I've been doing, but problems still exist.

For 3D games like Tomb Raider, either the D3D or Open GL plugins are recommended:
    http://www.pbernert.com/gpupete176.zip

Try them both to see if one of them solves whatever problems you're still having.

With that GL one, it still does the same static/pink screen thing. With the D3D ones, when I configured them they kept saying the resolution and color depth weren't supported.

Right click on the Desktop, go to Properties > Settings, and you'll see what screen resolution and color quality you've got your monitor set to.

    Tell us what it is.
Also, tell us what other settings you have available for both.

Also tell us what resolution and color depth you have the video plugin set to.

My screen resolution is set to 1280x800, and my color quality is 32 bit (highest).

For screen resolution the other settings are:
    1280x768
    1024x768
    800x600

For color quality, the only other setting is 16 bit (medium)

For both D3D plug ins, the resolution is 1280x768 and the color was 32 bit. For the GL one it was 1280x800 with 32 bit for color.

Have you tried mounting the image with Daemon Tools and using pSX again? Not to discourage you from using ePSXe, it's just that I know for a fact that it will run perfectly on pSX.

Try setting both your desktop & video plugin to 1024x768 and 16 Bit, just to see what happens, with ePSXe.

Or try pSXfin with Daemon Tools like Haldrie suggested

Okay. I tried changing my resolutions and stuff but I still got the same exact problem. As for the psxfin thing, when I try to select the drive that tomb raider is on, it says that psxfin has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Am I doing something wrong with it?

For psxfin, maybe you need to install an ASPI layer?
    http://force_aspi_18.w.interia.pl/

Follow the instructions and make a backup copy of your current ASPI configuration before you make any other changes to it.
