If you're using a client like uTorrent or Azureus, you can check and uncheck what parts of the download you want to download or not. For example, if you see that there's an .nfo file in your download, uncheck the other parts so that the .nfo is downloaded first. Then, read the NFO, and if it says that there are subs, continue downloading the other parts as well

On the information screen you can check the tracker URL, might not be where you downloaded it from initially, but it will be located somewhere on that tracker. =]
