Weather for the last 3 days in melbourne australia. For those of you who are tl;dr all over the place, 1 cm in three days.

Dampe's Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Cause of death: Driver slipped on wet road.

Okay, so now we're going with the possibility that he happened to be walking near some randomly wet road when a driver came along, slipped, and hit him.

I really do think that the guy got in over his head, and after a few years of stringing along those interested in his project, he thought that the only way out would be to off himself, rather than admit that he may have taken on a project out of his league. That, or it's yet another unimaginative April Fool's prank. How many people die on or just before April Fools, only to be revealed alive later? Far too many for me to swallow this.

I'm going with April Fools prank now.

If he wanted an "excuse" for why he couldn't finish the game: hard drive crash, virus, somebody hacked him, lost/broke disk where he had all his work saved, etc.

Faking your death on the other hand, all it would take is for someone who knows you in RL to mention somewhere online that you're not dead, and the jig would be up.

You might be able to keep the truth from coming out for a few days--long enough to pull an April Fool's joke, but there's no way you could keep such a deception going indefinitely.

Considering the high number of improbable coincidences involved in his e-death so far, I'd say an episode of CSI is more likely.

This seems to be a little overdone to be a hoax, seeing that they took down the site and the forums,as well as announced the game was dicontinued.

Though on the other hand there are a few things that look suspicous. Logging in right before he died, that incorrect name and age thing ( i fixed the name in my post) and most of all a guy who spends his time making a 2d version of a n64 game also having a girlfriend? Highly suspicious.....

We're waiting for the aussies to come online. I think one lives near melbourne (jase I think). Now we just need to track down "dampe'" 's home address.

BTW, anyone else find his username oddly funny? Or is getting the impression that this staged death may be a publicity stunt to get attention for the project?

Taking down the site just because he dies and so early seems very suspicious to me. Something smells bad here AND IT'S NOW ME!

Hm... Well I'm not going to make any assumptions about whether or not this guy actually is dead. I'm scared that, if he actually is, I'll feel like an insensitive jerk later if I accuse him of lying now.

I will, however, say that if he's faked his death for such a ridiculous reason, he is both pathetic and insensitive, trying to take advantage of people's trust and good nature in order to save face. I will also say that if he has faked his death, and if it is later proved, this will be internet-memed faster than you can say 'IMMA CHARGIN MAH LAZER'.

Eh, any research I've done basically showed melbourne as being incredibly dry until around friday. Which of course was a few days AFTER he was dead. And with the water supply "supposedly" running low, that reduces the chances somebody was just hosing off the driveway and things got "out of hand"

As for his OOT2D project even if his family wanted to they could not continue it or give it out, he kept it in an encrypted RAR archieves at all times he wasnt worknig on it, so not a chance...

Well at least one person in his family is familiar with the site I guess. Still wouldn't see why anyone would have account access though. Nor can I tell if there were any posts made by dampe around the time of the accident, since they deleted the entire forum and the new one has apparently been "taken down" so if anyone can point it it's BS for sure, they're clearly not able to do so in a OoT 2d related forum.

He could have just left himself logged in on his computer, I guess. That's what I do with my EP account. Either way, I heard about this incident earlier today. I'm loathe to jump on the "April Fool's joke" bandwagon but there certainly does appear to be something amiss here. :\
