A fifty cal spitball is a kill. No question.

; You don't HAVE to have the gun shoot out at full speed. Make the gun gas powered and shoot the rubber bullets out at like, 1500 feet per second instead of 3000. Or replace it with beanbags, even. The point was something big and heavy that'll knock a protestor down the same way a high-power water hose does. A big bullet strikes me (lol!) as something that would spread out the force of the inpact more than a small one going at the same speed.
Rather than any pieces of metal you might have, piercings, belt buckles, pant zippers, watches, will be heated enough to give you third degree burns and catch your clothes on fire?
As I was walking down the stair,
    I met a man who wasn't there.
    He wasn't there again today.
    I wish, I wish he'd go away.

You heat my zipper up, those pants are coming the fuck off. I have a reputation to uphold.

It's 50 degrees Celcius, not 50 degrees Kelvin. 50K would be so cold that your body would literally shatter as it is only 50 degrees above absolute zero.

It can penetrate clothes, suddenly heating up the skin of anyone in its path to 50C.
I bet it is just a very strong, directional microwave. I can see how this will be VERY effective for crowd control.

I knew that. I was seeing if anyone else would catch it or care enough about my posts to even notice.

I hardly doubt that the military will admit that will cause caner and other horrible things. Where do I get that idea, when you go to get an x-ray don't you have to wear something to keep the x-ray away from your genitals.

You know, there aren't an awful lot of choices as to what it might be.

According to wikipedia, "The radiation produced by a microwave oven is non-ionizing." (You could probably go and verify whether that's true or false yourself with a bit of calculation, if you wanted to.)
Since this probably works using the same concept, I don't think it'd increase the possibility of cancer. I'd be more concerned about the photoelectric effect. (You have a metallic necklace on? LOL ZAP'D)

Dude, bean bags and rubber bullets now kill when taken in the head or chest!

From a .50 bmg (browning machine gun) round?!?! That'll tear flesh and maybe limbs. The heat ray can be affective, but all it takes is getting used to intense heat for a few moments and one can still shoot someone or blow somethin up. There will never be a perfect non-lethal round. Someone can only improve what we have now, never perfect it.

What's wrong with tearing off flesh and limbs again?

I love intense heat as long as the air is dry. I could develop a formidable resistance against the weapon, but the first couple of times will have me on the ground.

That's what we have Ball and Hollow point rounds for. Duh!

Me too, I can stand 120 degree dry heat. I hate humidity.

    50 Degrees c?

Pussies. I lived in constant 50c for 3 months when I was staying with my Aunt and Uncle in Alice Springs.

A fork. A fork will spark because it's pronged. Spoons hardly ever spark, unless they're particularly pointed or you have a very strong microwave.
If you didn't like the above message, that's because it was written by a hacker/my evil twin/aliens. If you did like it, then, yeah, it was all me.

Assuming that the Bohr-model will suffice:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ionizat...ic_explanation
Then you have E=hf for the energy of photons, you can calculate the minimal frequency of light needed to strip the atom of one of its electrons.

No, and I don't really intend to, either. (A fork would have a larger chance of creating sparks, anyway)
