want to listen some unique guitar sound?,
try "and your bird can sing" by the beatles,(ha@people-who-thinks-george-
    couldn't-play-complex-and-fast-stuff),from the "Revolver" album,
or "getting better" from the "Sgt Pepper's lonely hearts club band" album, nothing
out of the ordinary there, just some chord-smashing,but the guitar sounds like
if the strings were made of glass,(to quote a local musician, and I totally agree,
when I heard him saying that I was like "THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I FELT ALL THIS
TIME BUT I NEVER COULD PUT TO WORDS!").

don't worry,I'm used to metal-people and modern-guitarists-people laughing at me
    when I say "The Beatles".
    nothing

I'm really into Japanese rock's/Indies/VK and of cours Japan has lot's of great band's out there, here are my favorite guitarist's
Dir En Grey:Kaoru and Die both play guitar, Toshiya bass player.
I use to listen to American alternative, such as Blink-182 and Fool Fighter but all of their song's are lame, but I still do like the solo and riff's from the late band Aerosmith, and Van Halen.

Well I didn't read this whole therad so these may have been said, but Randy Rhodes (Ozzy's guitarist who died) was great, as well as Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) playing his guitar with a violin bow...most excellently creative.

I don't listen to much rock, but Jimi Hendrix gets my vote.
