Super Mario RPG, just to get that one out of the way. Check out the Dragon Quest games too. There should be translations available for 'em.

    There's a ton...besides the FFs you have:

    Tales of Phantasia
    Star Ocean
    Mario RPG
    Earthbound
    Lufia 1-2
    Shin Megami Tensei 1-2
    Dragon Quest 5-6 (plus remakes)
    Romancing Saga 1-3
    ...plus more

Lots of Action RPGs like Secret of Mana (SD2 and 3) and Terranigma as well...

And Strategy games like Front Mission and Fire Emblem 3-5.

Yup. Deja vu indeed. Thing is, hang around long enough and there aint nothin' that could possibly pass as original. It all starts blending together eventually. There's no point in worrying about it.

Yeah, see. You're becoming institutionalized and jaded. It happens to us all in time.

And um...most of the best ones have already been suggested. You might consider giving Rudora no Hihou / Treasure of the Rudras a look. It was translated a while back by Aeon Genesis and it's pretty decent. Standard turn-based stuff, but with fairly nice graphics, a lovely soundtrack and a whole multi-scenario sort of thing.

I found Rudra no Hihou (translated of course) to be rather boring...
One of the good Japan-only RPGs i've played (It's NOT Tales of Phantasia, although that's a good one) is called Live a Live. (Don't worry about it sucking, it's Squaresoft )

It's kind of hard to explain. Like Rudra, there are multiple chapters with varied characters that can be played in any order, but you have to finish or lose a chapter be allowed to go back to chapter choosing screen. The battle system is unique. You can actually move around(suprise suprise), and you'll have to. You have techniques, each of which has a different kind of range(like a star, lines around the character, perhaps just right next to it). The key to winning is basically knowing what techniques fit each character...
The plots were pretty nice, and in the final portion you could choose four of the main characters to battle the final baddie.
What I liked was how they perfectly nailed the amount of help you get on what to do. While you have some guidance, you have to actually THINK about what to do next... or get a walkthrough(I did the latter )

Meh, the music's pretty nice too(although in my opinion not as good as Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 3... er... 6) and the graphics are decent.

I don't think we have it here, but it's available at Home of the Underdogs and also this little site called Archnacho and Tortilla-Godzilla's Quality ROMs

Get Dual Orb II (If you can't read Jap there is translations). It's a really good and solid RPG that barely anyone here has played.

    Rudra no Hihou**
    Live a Live**
    Romancing SaGa**
    Dragon Quest*
    Treasure Hunter G**
    Star Ocean***
    Bahaumut Lagoon***
    Seiken Densetsu 3***
    Lufia 1&2**
    The 7th Saga**
    Breath of Fire 1&2***
    Chrono Trigger (Duh...)***
    Super Mario RPG***
    Ogre Battle*
    Tactics Ogre (No Trans.)**
