Well, a teacher suspending a student because he talked in spanish... I wonder how she managed to become a teacher. I think it's just a case of pure ignorance, that's all. Indeed, it was paranoia: being afraid of what is unknown.

(It's funny though; sometimes I notice while playing on-line games, how some people get mad when someone talks in spanish -or in whatever language they don't know-... and other people seem to be nicely surprised. I got some canadian/french/italian friends who learned a few words from me while playing ).

Spanish is... well, it's quite easy to learn (I think), at least writting/reading. The pronunciation may be a little hard for non-spanish speakers (but just as it's hard to pronounce english words for a non-english speaker). Each letter has only one sound, even vowels, while english is much richer in vowel sounds (if I remmber well, there are 11 or so vowel sounds in english, right?). But with a little practice, learning spanish is easy .

maybe it was a case if the kid doing it intentionally to annoy her or piss her off since the kid possibly knew that it had that affect on her.

I know; it's from the Rosary. I'm just messing with people, since Spanish is a Romance language.

Romance languages are the ones descended directly from Latin. French, Italian, and Spanish are the most famous three, with Occitan, Catalan, Portuguese, Romanian, and a bunch of others as well.

English isn't really a romance language. More like the unholy bastard child of German and French.

Yeah, English is like a gramatically germanic language with a mostlt romance (partly via french and also plenty from straight latin) vocabulary.

Oh, I missed my chance to use this English quote.

"Not only does the English Language borrow words from other languages, it sometimes chases them down dark alleys, hits them over the head, and rifles through their pockets."

Lots of German (Saxon), bit of Scandinavian (Danish Vikings), a trace of Celtic (Angles; flow from Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and Cornish), a helping of French (Norman), and whatever else it got off any languages it mugged during the Age of Sail.
