that just goes to show that people have their own likes and dislikes... i know it's an insult to xenogears but we can do nothing about it... it's his opinion and if he stands by it, it's ok because we all know that xenogears is the best game out there!

I'd have to agree with elhaym ... it's one person's opinion, and there's nothing we can do about it. But it seems like he/she didn't spend much time exploring the game, and the review has extremely poor coverage of the game. Well, if that person has played any RPGs before, he/she would know that you can't skip through any stories; you have to play them through. Most ironic of all, right underneath, it says "Click here to buy Xenogears Now."

I think Xenogears is a fantastic game by the way.

Xenogears isn't for everybody. If you play it, you'd immediately realize that the game is an aquired taste.

Maison's Tip #643: It's a good idea to find reviewers that have the same taste as you and stick with them. Because most won't, and you'll only become angered by reading what they have to say. =)

However, the flat abuse of everything about Xenogears makes for a rather crude review. Come on, I dont see how you can say the FMV's suck or the animations are bad and stuff like that. Besides that, although the review does mention the battle system as a good part of the game, don't you think a battle system is closely linked with how an RPG works ? Phooey! Thats an amature reviewer..

Angered? I thought that Maison Gray said that dissenting opinions were good. But it is good to work with people who have similar tastes/opinions than you; unfortunately, that's not always possible.

I'd agree with MasJ - it's an amateur review by an amateur reviewer who couldn't take 5 minutes out of his day to take a closer look at the game before posting a review.

I dont think that critics are asses at all. They give an opinion, based on thier personal feelings on whatever particular product they are payed to review. If they dont feel the same way you do about something, well dont be suprised. Its called an opinion. You've got one, I've got one, and Little Johnny Dongflogger down the street has one. They arent always going to match up. For instance, I've disagreed with every movie review Siskel and Ebert ever did, but I dont think they are asses for not liking something I do.

Dissenting opinions are good, on a message board, for discussion. However when I'm going to buy a game I want to find a reviewer that has the same tastes as me to see what s/he thinks before I buy it. I want to know their opinions so that I buy good games and not the bad ones. Because personally, that's all I'm really looking for in a review.

Good point, Maison, but I still believe that reviews are heavily subject to subjectivity of the individuals and perhaps even their previous experiences. Hence, although an individual may seemingly have the same tastes, their opinions of games may differ slightly in certain circumstances.

I have never played Xenogears myself but from what i've heard from other individuals opinions, the game is really great. But i would have to play it myself to fully understand the quality of the game before i can give a proper review of it.

And that's something that that reviewer probably never did - give it a proper play through.
