Taken from here from which it came and used in such a way that i could only be a representation of what it was and where it came from.
I think it's a bad idea because, like the V-Chip, it's another "feature" that reduces the overall quality of the rest of system and/or increases the price of the product. What if we don't want to pay for the R&D for parental control software?
It's not a bad thing.
It's in the Xbox, and the Xbox 360 and the it's anounced for the Revolution as well.
It's a good way to keep the goverment off the ESRB and the Developers backs.
As he said. And, if this can put idiots like Thompson in a semi quiet mode, maybe we'll all be better off in the end.Originally Posted by GundamGuy
No doubt. I cant help but thing that those who say it's a bad thing fully understand the situation the industry is in right now. Self regulation is better than Government regulation, and if this helps get Clinton off of our backs, then great.
Who do you mean by Clinton?
it has proven to not be effective self regulation though. But heck, if the people who try to enforce it are stupid enough to believe it works, keep at it. It's kind of like carrying around a Bible to avoid getting arrested for possession of crack.Originally Posted by Evil Ted
edit - and Hillary Clinton WILL make the situation much worse. Wish me luck on gaining citizenship in Switzerland.

There ya go. There's something about that story and stuff there. Not the whole story, but part of it. Yeah...
Wow. That was a really shitty analogy.Originally Posted by CryixDijonrit
So you're saying that it's better to not have any self-regulatory measures in place, giving the politicians have more fodder for their anti-gaming agendas, than it is to expect parents to step up and take responsibility, thus taking a little bit of the heat of the industry? Ok then.

What a whorrible person.(Clinton)
Still, I have no problems with games rated M not being sold to children, and for those who do it to be fined. The parental control will be there, but most parents won't know about it. Nonetheless, that will be another countermeasure against excessive regulations. I hope.

i couldnt give a toss because im 22.
but i do think its an awesome idea,
all you frickin 13 year olds dont need to be playing gta
No, I had just said that is satisfies them but doesn't really get anything done. If parents really want to "protect" their children they'll remove the offending device(s). Ever hear of parents taking away their childrens' internet priviledges when they use porn? It's just like drug prohibition, without all the murderous side-effects, (oh wait cough -columbine- cough). Both sides win I guess.Originally Posted by Evil Ted
thats right. damn 13 year olds.
Exactly my point.Originally Posted by Evans
Even if it's not used, that Sony is including Parental Controls in the PS3 should serve to show these overzealous politicians that the industry is interested in policing itself, insofar as it's trying to put the choice of what kind of games are appropriate for their kids directly in the hands of the parents, rather then having the Government make that choice for them.
Parental controls are a measure that allow parents to keep the "offending device" while removing what's so offensive about it out of the equation. Since gaming isn't just for kids anymore, it's not too far-fetched to believe that mommy and daddy might want to get in on the fun as well, while keeping their kids from playing their copy of some odd M-rated game. They'd be able to do that with the parental control options built into the PS3.Originally Posted by CryixDijonrit
I dont see much of a reason NOT to include them in the PS3. They're there if you wanna use 'em, and you can ignore 'em if you dont. Maybe if you could prove conclusively that their inclusion in the PS3 would cause the system's price to rise substantially, then maybe you'd have a case. I wouldn't wanna pay for something I wouldn't use. However, unless that's the case, then I think it's great that Sony is taking that measure, much like NINTENDO is with the Revolution...
