What are the best 3 rpgs ever made and and why?
What are the best 3 rpgs ever made and and why?
Chrono Trigger: the characters all have different abilities that can be used to make more powerful ones.
Xenogears: the story is compelling, so are the characters. It's lenghty with plenty of side quests and techniques. Big robots, big big robots.
Shining Force: might only be be, but that way of moving your characters around and being able to select them between about 40-50 others is just fantastic. Plus the whole promotion system, that's a big plus in my book.
Star Ocean 2-3: for the invention system, the many characters, the hidden stuff, the big and lenghty boss battles.
Those are my three favorite RPGs.
Pssst, I can't count.
Fallout 1-2. If we're talking about roleplaying, Fallout is the winner. It's quite close to the original dice&paper ones.
Arx Fatalis. It's almost the same as Ultima Underworld. With better graphics.
Valkyrie Profile. Good story, though only if you unlock all three endings. And of course, the battle system. Tri-Ace did a great job.
I second that Valkyrie Profile nomination.
1)CHRONO TRIGGER
2)Valkyrie Profile
3)Zelda: Ocarina of Time (was the rpg that made 3d seem like a good idea)
Neverwinter Nights, vagrant story and final fantasy tactics, great games

"You're what keeps me here"
From what I've played they would be:
1.Tales of Phantasia
The way in which you fight is great, the story and cause it's the only rpg I can get every character to 99 without to much trouble
2.Final Fanatasy 3
The story, music, gamelpay and cause it has the ultima spell(The best FF rpg)
3.Valkyrie Profile
Everthing about it is good except the music, it wasn't to hot
Tales is pretty cool too. Try Tales of Destiny or Eternia.
What what what what what??? VP's music is freaking nice. Period.
Final Fantasy 4 (second translation is the best!)
Xenogrears - great story and well made combat system
Chrono Trigger - lots of content and well made all around
chrono trigger, final fantasy 7 and tales of phantasia
Baldurs gate 2 :
Immense storyline,
200hours min playtime (addon added 20hs)
Special romances within your group
Tons of sub quests and main quests
Neverwinter Nights :
Great online roleplay (well server dependant)
Good story
Fallout 1-2, Planescape: Torment: Great environment, better character interaction than any other RPGs. The focus is actually on roleplaying, not fighting, solving puzzles or reading long, long dialogues. The storyline is above most other games.
Vagrant Story: I love the athmosphere of this game. Nice difficulty, too, took me a few hours to figure stuff out, but afterwards it's not that insane. Not really an RPG, but some people even considered Zelda as such.
Tales of Phantasia/Destiny/Eternia, Valkyrie Profile: For fast paced 2D fight scenes, these are the games to play. The graphics are also pretty nice, if you enjoy 2D graphics.
I'm pretty sure you meant FF6, the one with Kefka and Terra/Tina in it. If not, sorry.Originally Posted by malice2501

Hard decision....Aw well i'll give it a shot
1. Chrono Trigger-If you have never played it, download it NOW!!!! if you hated it, all I gotta say if WTF? (don't take that personally Fate, I just though everyone loved this)
2.Star Ocean 1 (Giving credit where credit is due. Sure 2 and 3 were awsome, but this started it all, and is IMO the deepest and most original. Definantly worth a play)
3. Final Fantasy 7 (I personally like it a lot, I enjoyed how they took all the great stuff from earlier games and made it next generation. Good storyline, despite being pretty overrated. All in all, a game not to be missed. For the record, 4 is next on my list of great FFs).
I'm overlooking Zelda, because I don't consider it an RPG (Parasite Eve was more of an RPG, and it was mostly a straight action game). Super Mario RPG also gets maybe 4th spot, it deserves mention for being a very fun game that is hard to put down. Props also to the Tales series for the unique battle system, really prevents the ATB meters from getting bunred into my retinas (at least it would have, if I played them sooner)
