    FreeBSD is better than Linux...

However, I can't expect that the average computer user is going to run it. Bottom line, is they really don't care that much. Windows is familiar, so it is easiest to use. However, the fact that more and more software is becoming cross-platform is all that really matters. People can use their apps on Windows, and I'll happily use mine in FreeBSD.

FreeBSD is nice, but Linux has proven itself to be more secure from viruses, worms & other hacking techniques. It's extremely stable. You may not like that, but I'm not about to start a flame war over "which non-Windoze OS is better".

Windows is "easy" because we've been using it a long time. DOS started the EXACT SAME way as early Linux. Text input. Command prompts. No graphical interface. No mouse. Just a keyboard and a screen. While Sata...er gatez has been working to sell us needless garbage that makes him rich, Linux programmers were making the OS hardware stable. While gatez was eliminating all competition to internet exploder, linux programmers were making internet software that was virtually hacker proof. And while gatez was developing anti-freedom programs such as DRM management and "Genuine Windows", linux programmers were producing thousands of free open source programs. No crashes, no blue screen of death, no reinstalls, no $60/hr tech support. Turn on your computer, use it, and turn it off.

Linux is the closest thing next to perfect operating system that I know of. Even a videogame system might act buggy on a bad CD or a cartridge. Linux can even work if you have a bad hard drive AND bad RAM. It's just that stable. It was built from the ground up to be a networking computer. With the Internet being more important than an individual computer, Linux has tapped into the future. Windows is all about profit for M$oft. Linux is about freedom, about open source, open borders and safety of your personal information.

Linux is like having a group of bodyguards protecting you. It seems that you're restricted and can't move around, but atleast u don't have anyone hacking your system and stealing your personal information. Once you learn to work with your bodyguards and understand what they do, you gain complete freedom. Using Linux, you can talk directly with programmers who can build software that has the features you want. Linux is about freedom.

Windows is like a glass house. Everyone can see what you have. Anyone can come in easily. When you leave, everyone knows they can break in and take your s**t. People know when you're home. Windows seems to have been written to constantly crash and not be reliable. It's the worst operating system ever written. It works against the user. Windows is anti-human.

I'd rather have the bodyguards myself. Turn on the computer, use it, and turn it off. It should do what you want, not the other way around.

Linux is so overly hyped as being complicated to use. Well, you try making an operating system that is 99.999% reliable and never crashes? The fact that Linux programmers are working 24/7, usually for no pay, just to make a better OS is nothing sort of amazing. With any luck, Linux will someday destroy Windows. Then, all the software and programs you use will be free. Isn't that cool? Even if you did have to pay, you'd get something back.

If anyone wanted to take over the world, they would do it using computers. So guess which computer operating system is full of security holes & installed on more than 80% of the world's computers...

and that's all I have to say. I'll be done installing Linux on two computers in half the time Windows would be. No more worries about viruses/hack0rz/spyware or online security. No crashes. No worms, no viruses. No hacking. Turn on your computer, use it, and turn it off.

    Life should be so simple.
screw Windows. Send the Beast back to the Abyss!!

Heh, if anything I would find security to be the place where Linux is lacking compared to the BSDs. Linux does have more features in certain cases however. Also in my experiences Linux was not especially stable. Anyway, I digress...

I wouldn't try and make all Linux programmers out to be saints. Just look at Linus Torvalds...he is doing pretty well...

Both Linux and FreeBSD are FAR from perfect. They both have a lot of flaws with them. However, I happen to enjoy using FreeBSD more than Windows. Its benefits outweigh its drawbacks. For me it is better, but not for everyone.

Meh, I suppose I would consider Linux if I could have a multi-OS system without having to buy a new hard drive.

Also, I really haven't noticed too many bugs with Windows. Ok, there was this one time where my computer screwed up really badly, and I needed to reinstall, but that was just because I was messing with the Windows folder (Curse you, Norton!). Besides that, Windows has been working quite well for me.

It's coming soon, but you know it will still be a proprietary Apple machine...

Running Windows games...probably not. They may get better support though.
