Default Methlabs, pwned by the MPAA/RIAA...

As anyone who uses PeerGu*rdian2 is probably aware, there was a break in the group which distributes it and the website was stolen by one of its members. The group is now back online at their own domain. Or are they?
I was wondering how safe it is to use the software? Considering that PG2 is open-source and the MPAA/RIAA was able to get to one of its members (now the ex-member) involved in programming it, is it still as safe? Still better to use it than nothing at all, but what's the word on the street about PeerGuardian2?

Anyone who doesn't think the MPAA/RIAA bought off Cerberius is a fool.

Just read the site. It's an IP blocker right? so why is it having such trouble? From my understanding, most agencies don't have too much legal juice in such fields.

I just use peerguardian for blocking bad seeders ip. If you're scared of MPAA and RIAA, you're not one to be a pirate...so stop downloading tunes from kazaa kay?

heh, i personally don't give a flying frik about either of them. The lawyers fees will cost more than the 100 songs ive downloaded. So let em come if they want

Question: does it block out your IP or other ppls?

PeerGuardian2 has less to do with getting sued than it has to do with having your connection slowed down on Kazaa & other P2P programs. The MPAA/RIAA employs anti-P2P companies who flood the networks with bad files. I think the quote was that by using PG2 75% of bad fileshares can be stopped. That's more than reason enough to use it. btw, f*ck the MPAA/RIAA, I would love to be sued. After all the $300+/hr costs, the trial alone would be tens of thousands of dollars. I wish more ppl would not cave into them by not ratting out their friends in order to get off. Rats=scum. Scum=death!

    hehe

Anyway I wouldn't worry to much about downloading games, they aren't targeted by those agencies *yet*. Music and movies however.......just try to keep yourself safe, I don't bother downloading anything besides games anyhow so I don't have to much advice or knowledge on that

hmm, i have'nt run into any bad files yet. Using common sense has helped me out on that one. Movies run 700MB+, not 150kb. Guess ill give it a try though.

    Oh yeah, F*CK THOSE GUYS!!!

Tens of thousands of dollars is pocket change to these organisations. Don't get me wrong; I agree with your sentiment but as far as money is concerned you can't win. If you really want to hit 'em where it hurts then you should boycott them ENTIRELY. Buy CDs on independent labels and don't even give the RIAA the satisfaction of downloading their music. Support your favourite major label bands by attending their concerts, and if you desperately want MPAA and RIAA products you should buy them used so they don't receive money from the sale.

Very good reply, Cosmic. I love Electronica music, and almost all the DJs are unsigned by the big labels. (Except for Tiesto, Sasha, Digweed, Oakenfold, etc.) Thanks to indie labels & home studios, most of the music is demo & promos to get the DJs a gig. Of the music I do own, I would rather pay the artist directly. Prince had a good idea & was able to survive a few years w/out going through the major labels. I wonder how he's doing (financially) these days?

btw, love your hair. (no that was not a come on)

I wouldnt say it is pocket change to these guys, if it was they wouldnt be bothering us little guys. I completely agree with you though. They have slowly been on the decline since burning home CD's first became available. The video game industry is getting a big wet bite of thier market, and is growing larger every year (that goes for movies and music). Linear entertainment is becoming a thing of the past, and instead of trying to catch up, these guys are just trying to hold on.

Exactly. And with online gaming being much more intuitive, more innovative, more time-flexible, and just more fun, they had better worry.
