Default What Processor should I get?

Hey Im looking at getting a new processor. Right now I got a AMD Sempron 2200 that came with my biostar k7 m7vig 400. I got a 754 socket and am not intersted in getting a new board to make it a 939 socket. Im just looking for a nice processor for a 754 socket, probebly a 64 bit one? any suggestions? and are semprons really that good? I hear there not. And if not what about the sempron 64`s ?

well here are a few of them I was looking at...

I dont really want to spend over 200$ preferebly not over 150$, and please if you give me any links make them from newegg my parents wont let me buy stuff from anywhere else but there. Because theyre alwas reliable.

    cheers and thanks !

    Any Help would be GREAT

None of the links work. However, a 64-bit Sempron is slightly oxymoronic in itself. I truly hope they don't exist.
I can't see any reason to buy a Sempron, because it is an almost certainty that you can buy a quicker Athlon for the same price.

I can't get your links to work. You need to use hxxp:// instead of ht*p, because the links get broken. Luckily NewEgg's search function was still helpful.

Until an OS that takes full advantage of 64-bit processors comes out, stay away from Sempron64. It's like buying a new processor when it first hits the market.

    hxxp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819104252
    >This one is $63 and is a Sempron 2600+, 1.6Ghz. Does not support SSE3.

    > Same $63, same as above but with SSE3 support.

With a 939 socket, you could step into this for $146:

All of AMD's development is going to Athlon64. If you doubt that, I suggest you visit Tom's Hardware and read up on the Socket M2. Looks like some of the newer boards will give the Xbox360 a run for its money.

btw, I would kill to get one of these.

Go for the best socket 754 Athlon64 CPU you can afford. Even though they're 64-bit, they work fine with Windows XP.

Ok, I might just go do that then instead of wasting money and getting a new board. When I have a whole load of money Ill get a 939 board, a new video card 512mb maybe, and a 64bit 4000+ tehehe but thats in the far future. What would you guys think about getting a new board with dual processor one 939 and one 754 to run my old spempron 2200 and a new one instead of getting just one new one. Its just a thought.

If you can find an Athlon XP 2500+, it's just about the best overclocker Athlon ever made. You can pair that with DDR 400 PC 3200 Ram, and overclock it to make it the equivalent of an XP 3200+. The 2500+ is really cheap now, I bought one about a year ago and it was only 130 bucks. Get yourself 512MB of ram (minimum), and you'll be just fine. Read some reviews on overclocking with Athlon's XP 2500+, and you'll see what I mean. It's the board I have. Even with my old, slow DDR 266 ram, I can overclock by almost 200 MHz, with no stability problems whatsoever.

I totally agree with PMC_Analyst. Go with the XP 2500+. I hope everyone knows that the AGP bus is being DISCONTINUED...video cards are starting to disappear already. Get PCIe (PCI express) on a fast board that supports the 64-bit operating systems, as they will be the defacto standard in about 2-3 yrs.

If you're gonna spend some loot upgrading, take the 40-50 buck plunge and go 64 bit athalon. Its worth the investment.

And i hope that the AGP does get discontiunued, so i can buy a Radeon X850 for peanuts So far the Ex has yet to be proven faster (mostly due to limited amount of support) but it does have the advantage of not needing an external power source. Either way, im not switching over till i get a real job.

Yeah right, GET THE BEST CPU FOR SOCKET 754 or 939, you call this good info? Ohmy i'm techy, i'm l33t, i'm h4x0rz.
But hum, you could always buy an ECS KN1-extreme for cheap, and an amd 64 3400+, they're fairly cheap.
Just stay away from Asus this year, they're seriously sucking hard.

    No, not that.

So I've heard, but why? Or maybe an example would best fit as an answer?

I can take pictures of how many RMA's we get at job for Asus products compared to every other board company.
We had 2 or 3 since July for ECS.
About 7-8 for Asus. Also when you send a board for RMA to Asus, on first "try" if they see nothing is broke on the board they will attempt to flash the bios...

Asus are 1/3 to 2/3 more expensive then ECS boards, too.
