Default Portable Dreamcast? Heck yeah....Treamcast w/LCD screen & gamepad at Success-HK

You can pick one up for around $181, which includes the bag, controller, Action Replay and LCD screen. I don't know the size of the screen. You can buy one, or read more about it here:
    GameSpot
Review by wraggster of DC Homebrew & DCEMU
WikiPedia (scroll about halfway down, pic on right)

    Buy it from Success-HK

I noticed that on all the pages I visited, no one mentioned the size of the LCD. Hmmmm...

props to Tovi & SniperWolf for first posting about this.

I like everyting about the Treamcast, except the controller. Without the analog stick, 3D gaming suffers.

agreed... the controller actually looks a lot like the six button controller for genesis.

can the regular dreamcast controller be used?

    It's cross season!

Yes it can, because the Treamcast has regular controller ports. Even the maraccas (sp?) from Samba de Amigo could be used...or a dancepad.

Sprung, u just know they found a good deal on hundreds/thousands of old MegaDrive 6 button pads and colored them white. Maybe one of us should buy this and try to scratch the paint off? (the back, of course)

edit: f**kit...someone tell me what would be a good filler or two, and I will buy one & post pics to the group.

edit 2: I think I'll add in new GBA flash card for umm...developer purposes

edit 3: Should buy that fliptop cover & ultimate swap set (including Breaker Pro).

    'sall in the d-pad bruv,

alot of people reckon that saturn is the best pad for fighters,
    whch might possibly be true

if you feel a saturn pad than a mega drive pad
    youll see what i mean

    fighters on saturn= sexage
fighters on mega drive= none worth speaking of

Hmm I'm intrested in this kinda.

I was kind of wondering about Dreamcast modding, what do I need to play the back ups people post/torrent around here(besides the system obviously )? I hear the term self boot a lot which I take to mean a game that doesn't need a chip to play a back up with? I'm probably off but if this is the case what's the best way to get it to play everything including non self boot stuff and would these things work on the Treamcast?

Thanks for any responses guys. I've never had a DC sadly.

edit : One last thing is DC/TC backwards compatible with Saturn games?

There really ins't anything to mod on a DC. If you have an NTSC console, make sure the manufacture date is October 2000 or before. In November 2000, they fixed the ability for NTSC consoles to boot an ISO. All PAL systems, regardless of manufacture date, with play ISOs.

Selfboot means the game loads just like an original. Using the Audio/Data configuration, the DC thinks the game data is actually structured like an original GD-ROM, and boots the game. A non-selfboot game isn't configured as Audio/Data, and therefore requires a boot disc to achieve the loading process. Selfbooting is only dependent on the October 2000 and before date scheme. (It has been said that an Data/Data configuration can boot on consoles after Nov 2000, but I have never tried it).

I would think the Treamcast would boot games, as long as the core system they used was NTSC pre 10/2000 or PAL.

No, the DC cannot play Saturn games, sadly.

Is there any reliable places where you can order a DC from before that date? I might also check my local flea market so would the date be on the bottom of the system with the ID information and everything or do you have to check model numbers?

Thanks a lot for clearing some of that I understand more now ^^. Sucks about Saturn but I've seen a tutorial around here showing how easily modable it is with tape and swapping so thats a good thing hehe.

There aren't too many places you can order a DC anymore... I would recommend flea markets and Pawn Shops. The Date is on the bottom of the DC on the service tag, and easily visible

The Saturn tape/swap mod is incredibly easy...and ask Cyber how you can get the swap right on the 1st try (tell him I sent you )

If you find more than one DC made before Oct 2000, pm me DementedLullaby. I've been searching one everywhere but couldn't find one.

www.lik-sang.com has "pre-modified" DC consoles, tested and warranted for $79, which, in my opinion is extremely high...but I am intrigued at the "pre-modified" part... unless they are post 10/2000 units, it's kinda pointless...

Hmmm that might be my best bet if I can't get it elsewhere, the price isn't to bad I guess. I'll letcha know if anywhere has one(besides the one I pick up )at the place I go Mr.Bunny. There was one awhile ago but I wasn't sure about the date or anything, I'll take a more thorough look the weekend after next.
