I think you should go to college. Unless you have something you really want to do. If you have the opportunity to go to college, you should take it. It's not that bad, compared to my time spent working, it's definately better.
The bottom line is hopefully with the help of college you can get into something you'll at least enjoy to some extent. Not some boring dead end job. Yeah, I'm going to college and don't really care too much about the field I'm in. But there's no field I REALLY care about. Bottom line I find it to be better than the alternative.
An emergency Dingy could be a financial one where you get chucked out of your current job and have no savings and need another one. Maybe your job initially was skill based but the market has reached saturation and you land up without it, then what ? You might be able to land something based on your degree/educational qualification. Also, a skill based labour class has very long maturity periods. People can work in the same line for 60+ years. Example, if someone becomes a plumber/carpenter at 15, he could do much the same thing until he's 75. The market is bound to reach saturation at some point of time, as it has in India.
Plumbers get jack shit in India and other nations. It has nothing to do with us being a developing nation, it's more to do with market saturation, every second guy here is a plumber/electrician, etc. In a country like ours, it shows a very real picture of where other markets are headed because saturation is bound to happen at some point or the other. Even for example, while the US is experiencing a shortage of engineers (recent slashdot post..) India has a huge surplus where more than 25% of engineering graduates don't land decent jobs.
You just have to decide based on the market. I do think that the thread poster in question should probably go to college, agree with Xaenn totally on this one, and maybe he can do a part-time job to cover up expenditures. A lot of people do that.
My mistake.Originally Posted by Dingy

Hmmm... Possiblity 1To the guy who made the topic, find a specialty. A friend of mine read on-line manuals on networking, programming, and PC repairs for 2 months now he's hooked up with this company (AMG he called it). He's making 14.80 (US) an hour, with a 50% raise in 90 days. Add that up and he's making over 20 dollars (US) an hour and working 40 hours a week.
I don't know, no one told me yet. But most tech jobs require a minimum certification of some sort. 41,600 isn't bad at all for one person, but if you end up having to support anyone else it doesn't hold up.
Furthermore if you pursue a trade, you're required to be self sufficient from the get go, not to become self sufficient from the job. As long you transition yourself correctly, it truly can work quite well. Any of the heavy duty jobs get paid a pretty penny because they be considerably dangerous.
College will take you a bit longer to get through in the short run, but with the right credentials you're above lots of people in terms of educational background and ahead of the crowd when it comes to looking for a cheap, easy job. Those aren't as plentiful as anyone would think.
But they can learn quickly just like anyone else, and will probably beat out new applicants when looking for this type of job when they have to.Historians, y'know, can't tile my fucking roof.
Probably not the best choice, but you're the only one that has power on this situation.
Do you think it is the good thing for you? Do you think you'll live an happy life with this? Ask yourself some silly questions like that, and you'll probably know.
The fact that you have a doubt about it being the right choice for you makes me think it's not really what you want.
Btw i love your user title.
If you have to ask if others think this is the best decision then you must have your doubts about it.
Do what you think is right for yourself and don't question it. A lot of the time these days even if you have a degree in something specific you don't end up in what your schooled in. Not going to college right away isn't a bad thing. It helps you decide what you really want to do with your life. I'm personally working right now but do plan on going back to school at some point.

Thanks for the info Paladin Hammer. MasJ, I really don't know a field I like; but I agree that a degree can help later down the road.
PS: No worries Sprung, I got something planned just in case.
Thanks for the comment Polobunny.
Screw your mom. I agree with some of the other members, that college is good; but whatever you feel like doing with your life is sometimes the best-- I guess.
I myself didn't go to college after HS, but I'm doing part time schooling and working (so I can graduate before mid-life- LOL). Just kidding, maybe before 25.
Call me an idiot for asking, but what job where u going 4 ? You don't have to tell me if you choose not to.
Wow
Never has the phrase Utterly boring been more appropriate.

I agree with you about the whole market thingy, not withstanding how I am opposed to it, in principle, and more importantly, how it's sad that such a situation would arise (and exists almost permanently in India) that a degree or marks would be the primary requisite.Originally Posted by MasJ
I never disagreed with what you said however, just articulated on what my opinion of an 'emergency' could be.
It obviously appeared that you did not comprehend the kind of emergency in question. Thus the awarded clarification. A degree of marks is just a way which has been adopted for lack of a better system. I would be open to hearing any suggestions you have on a more viable alternative ? Sure, the system sucks, but have you anything that is better ?Originally Posted by Dingy
