Thrice is one of the few bands of their genre that actually has talent. And Nirvana isnt rock exactly, its grunge. Get it right or don't get it at all.

I heard 4 songs by Finch, and I only liked one of them. The new album is shit though. I feel kindof dumb for liking it, too.
But what's so good about Nirvana? I just think they suck, alot. And Foo Fighters too. Dave Grohl is one of the most overrated musicians ever. He might as well get AIDS and die.

edit; DON'T CALL ME FUCKING EMO!!!
But perhaps I deserved it for saying I liked a Finch song. Shame on me.
Finch isn't as bad as Dashboard Confessional, though. There's nothing worse than seeing whining midget with an acoustic guitar... silly emo kids.

How is Nirvana the worst "rock" band ever? Honestly now... they may be very commercial, but they are by no means the worst rock band ever. In fact, they are one of the best... when they were big, they still had that small-mind attitude. Admittedly, some of it went to Cobain's head, but some of that was just his dissatisfaction of how things were perfect in his head, but not quite as perfect when he recorded it.

And if you want bad bands, you should listen to some of the local bands from here. Then again, there are some good bands around here, too.

New favorite band/person: Open, Parachute!, John Ryan.

Finch isn't as bad as Dashboard Confessional, though. There's nothing worse than seeing whining midget with an acoustic guitar... silly emo kids.

First off, if there is any way you can pass off the first Finch album as being anything other than crap, you are so sadly mistaken. The second album, Say Hello To Sunshine is where the lead singer has first started to find his voice and his place. It is a marked improvement over the first album, carrying a lot more power and emotion in almost every one of his songs.

As for Nirvana, the big thing with them is they spoke to the kids without wanting to be mainstream sellouts about it. They were playing music for the sake of playing music, and put out some unbelievably wonderful songs. Admittedly, Foo Fighters are not as great as Nirvana was, but they are still a lot better than most corporate rock out there.

Nirvana is the band that made it big while being grunge. Sure, there was Soundgarden and Mudhoney and Tad before them, but grunge was the first non-corporate rock band to break through to mainstream. A band from a tiny town where rednecks and loggers were bred knocked Michael Jackson off the top of the Billboard charts, floated entirely on the fact that kids and young adults wanted their album.

Nirvana spoke to the outcasts that other portions of punk-rock missed. And Kurt Cobain was the icon for troubled youth -- troubled youth found their place with Nirvana, and it was the first time that any form of disturbed music made it into mainstream culture. "Smells Like Teen Spirit," when first given promotional airtime on the radio, was given the highest level of listener support ever recorded on radio. Now understand, this is based off 15 seconds of airtime.

It was music that hit so many people. That's the very, very basis of what makes Nirvana great. That and the distorted mind of Kurt Cobain created very disturbing music.

Damn, everytime I mention Finch here it turns into a big discussion for some reason. I agree with you about the second album but uh not about the first (which is weird because you liked it the last time I mentioned it, oh well people will be people). The first album Nate had great vocals (he always has) and the lyrics for most of the songs were memorable though not as much as Sunshines. What It Is To Burn was the best song on that album, sad and ironic thing is its only a bonus track too.

Also, the genre "Emo" is missused so much these days it sickens me...

I dunno. I always found that he was a lot more passionate in "Sunshine" than he was in "Burn." See, I do quite like Finch. A lot, actually... I'm listening to "Sunshine" right now. =P But for some reason I just can't get passed how generic their first album sounds. Although I'll agree with you that there are some memorable tracks, for the most part it sounds so manufactured as a modern-punk-screamo CD. "Sunshine," on the other hand, seems to have it's own semi-distinctive sound while still operating within the same dynamics of what they set forth on the first album.

I enjoy both CDs, though, so it's not that big of a deal. I'm just saying...

Also, the other reason I was getting kind of out-of-whack on it was because he said he had heard 4 songs by Finch, then somehow managed to make a comparison about how good the two albums were in contrast to one another. Let's go by the assumption that he heard 2 songs from each album -- that's still not enough to make any sort of judgement on the quality of the entire album, 'cause almost every album has those one or two songs that I just can't stand.

I think that, moreso than just the comment on Finch, was what got me. =P
