But..Mitochondrial Eve merely refers to the first human female with mitochondria, since those particular organelles are passed from mother to child rather than grown by the cell itself (Which also means she is the only human with an unbroken line of daughters from past to present, since all humans have mitochondria). Sure, the name is drawn from the Bible, but the theory is not religious in origin.

Oh my, I miss read, I though he said 'Mythological Eve'

But... isnt Mitochondrial Production centers for ATP, the molecules that supply energy for the cell?

And according to the book Fit or Fat? : It has been shown repeatedly that steady aerobic exercise actually causes an increase in the number and size of mitochondria in each muscle cell. Further biochemical studies have confirmed that, with exercise, there is an increase in metabolizing enzymes inside those mitochondria. Aerobics makes it happen; without it fat happens.

I cannot find the word 'Mitochondrial' in the bible anywere, mabye its just my transalation.

Sorry, mitochondrial is an adjective, to pertain to mitochondria. The choice of her actual name, Eve, is directly pulled from the Biblical couple. There's also an Adam (Y-chromosomal, denoting a direct ancestry by all males), but analysis indicates that these particular people lived in different eras. They are not in fact the couple from the Bible, even if that is the source for their names.

Though, thanks for pointing out that mitochondria do in fact regenerate themselves. I meant in that post that mitochondrial DNA comes exclusively from the mother (mitochondrial DNA in the sperm is destroyed on fertilization) rather than the organelles themselves, but if you hadn't pointed out the mistake, I wouldn't have found out about studies that support recombination in mitochondrial DNA between the maternal and paternal sets, which in turn means that my prior post was indeed not entirely accurate. Mostly, but not entirely (10% recombinants of all mtDNA).

Well I see we are alike in at least one way, Himiko. I like to study aswell.

This is a more in depth look into Were our energy comes from, mabye you know all this. Its very simple when its explained.

ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the energy-rich source for muscle action. It is produced in the muscle fibers by small bodies called mitochondria and is formed in several ways. Fats in muscle tissue (adipose tissue) are broken down to become free fatty acids in the muscle and also in the blood. Eventually, in the muscle fibers they are oxidized to release energy to make ATP. Glucose from the blood is also oxidized in the muscle fibers to form ATP. Some glucose from the blood is stored in the muscles as carbohydrates, called glycogen. Then, as ATP is needed, this glycogen is broken down into glucose, which, without the use of oxygen, produces ATP.
These methods for making ATP are used simultaneously, but in varying degrees, according to the circumstances. The kind of exercise, its intensity, its duration, the physical fitness of the individualall are factors governing how much ATP each method will supply at given times. Relative to distance running, however, when the exercise has been intense for a long time, the mainstay for ATP production is glycogen.
Marathoners often do what is called carbohydrate-loading. A few days before a race they gorge on carbohydrates, and in so doing they can increase the amount of glycogen stored in their muscles by as much as 300 percent. A by-product of this use of glycogen, however, is lactic acid, and it is its accumulation in the muscles that causes fatigue, and eventually muscle soreness.

Indeed. ADP and AMP (adenosine di- and mono-phosphates, produced as the remnants of breaking the phosphate chain of the next level up) can also be broken down, but it provides exponentially less energy than ATP, and is only done by the body in emergency situations if all ATP has been used already.

One thing I wonder about evolution is how can Eve have the genetic makeup of all humans (being the mother creature we all came from) and be only a few thousand years old? Let's say we all came from monkeys, and the monkeys all came from creatures of the sea, and the creatures of the sea came from ancient bacteria (watch Star Trek and you'll see the episode where they talked about this...was it season 7 or 10?). To have come all the way from monkeys, humans must be atleast 10,000+ years old. White people look totally different from "blacks" in many ways, people of Asian decent also have certain differences.....but I would consider Asians to be a more homologous group than perhaps Africans or Europeans. In fact, European immigration has been traced and the Germans/Austrians share a deeper resemblance with Slavs (including Russians, Belorussians, Yugoslavians, etc.) than they would like to admit. It's kind of funny that Hitler talked about the great white race and how Germans were Aryans, when the history books had an actual race of people from thousands of years back who were very close to our earliest ancestors....and these peoples moved to the area now known as India. When I hear arguments of racial superiority I like to refer back to that example.

So anyway, we are all related genetically(and that's something MOST people are either too stupid or too brainwashed to admit) and yet we act like total sh*t to each other. It's a very sad state of things. Whatever force/God/etc. created us would not be pleased to see how we the world is now. Then again, with all the false Gods and false beliefs people have, along with Space Aliens and Zombies and other crazy nonsense, I don't think humans could even begin to understand what "God" really is. Our very jaded human minds can understand science but to gain understanding of the Creator, whoever/whatever that is, is divine and something we obviously don't deserve to know. EVER!!

Yes, we would if we were from monkeys.
which there is no Human records either Biblical or historical going beyond 6000 or so years. Its very complicated but you can trace to the year how long we have been on the earth by following the dates provided by the bible (minus the time when Adam and Eve were perfect, that amount of time is not specified)

And we are all the same on the inside, wether balck or white. Just as a factory that makes say, dog food, they make the dog food all the same, but just put diffrent packaging on for diffrent brands.
