    Default mkv on vlc

I'm tryin to play an mkv files on my vlc media player but they have very choppy videos. My ogm files work fine so I don't know whats up. I would just watch it on another media player but the mkv files I want to watch crash them so it isn't possible. Anyone know how to improve the video quality of mkv files on the vlc player?

Well .mkv files run perfectly fine on my vlc (videolan) player. I only have Xvid codec and the AC3 codec installed on my comp. Thats it. No other codecs pack or any other shit. I have noticed many people have problems playing .ogm or .mkv files EVEN on vlc media player which is kinda weird.

Oh by the way, I also update my Windows XP off the net regularly. Does it have anything to do with it ??? I mean may be they also release some codecs through windows update or something. No idea

VLC is an excellent program, so I would think the problem is rather with your movie files. Windows Media Player should be able to handle those files, though, and I'm pretty sure Media Player Classic does as well if you have the proper codecs and such.

I've tried on bs player, windows media player, zoom player, and real player and they all crash. Also it seems I only have probs with vlc when it comes to my mkv files.
