Yeah I know, but the title to the topic (in the link you gave) is "U.S. abstinence drive hurts AIDS fight-UN official ". Maybe they should have titled it something like "Shortage of condoms in Uganda"

They certainly seemed to be doing a good job so far, if they're going through them so quickly.

So...a UN representative is claiming the Ugandan government is being pressured into reducing the condoms available due to US pressure, even though the Ugandan government itself (Ignoring US statements either way on it) is claiming that there are enough as it is, and they aren't under pressure. Wouldn't one think that Uganda would be quick to find an international audience if the US really was pushing them around? Certainly other countries seem to be quick to do so when the US tries to throw its weight around...

I do agree, though, that abstinence-only programs have shown a remarkable failure to prevent STD and youth pregnancy issues (actually, the worst short of no education at all...which, actually, abstinence-only programs tend to be in essence since they teach no sort of prevention beyond not doing it), and it's quite foolish to budget...$8m USD to it? Beyond foolish and into plain stupidity.
