It's a lot faster on high speed net, too, because the e-mail servers don't need to send you tons of useless, fancy image data, since the interface in almost only text.Originally Posted by Darth Lucxus

On the rough topic of gmail, anyone with a gmail can now use their account to sign into google talk (googles recent IM client) which you can get http://www.google.com/talk/
It uses jabber, so you can add anyone on another jabber server or even use a different client than google talk to connect and chat.

Now we know how viral bunny signatures really spread.
Yeah, people should start using jabber instead of crap like msn.![]()
I use POP3.
Oh, and I don't see the point in Google Talk. Apparently Google are buying Skype soon anyway, who have a much superior VoIP program.
Whats the 'point' in MSN and the 'point' in AIM etc, well its a failry simmilar point to that of googles IM, I don't see what makes googles IM irrelevant and porprietary protocols like MSN and AIM relevant.
In fact googles client seems to do things with no-bullshit:
no annoying smiley pictures (but if you want these you can use google/jabber with another client tha does annoying smileys)
no display pictures or stupid custom names that people always make irritating and long (blessings of the jabber protocol)
it works with any other IM client using jabber and with any other jabber user from any other jabber server (plus of the jabber protocol, using different jabber services wont lock you away from your friends on other jabber servers like using msn vs aol)
probably other positive points that I can't think of right now.
The only reason MSN and AOL are 'good' is they are pre-established and its hard to move people over to a new protocol. (although jabber isn't brand new, I'd like to point out)
edit: oh yeah, what relevance has pop3 in this context? haha
nice thing about email is you can send messages between everyone on any provider, the same thing goes for jabber, anyone on any jabber server can message anyone on any other jabber server.

I've got 100 invites, not that anyone needs one seeing as how so many people have gmail.
Lightning Edge!!
