    Default question about larger files..

Lets say you had an iso file that was 4 gigs..and you wanted to email.. theoretically, could you rar the iso into 4 1 gig parts and email them through gmail to someone? sending each part after the user had dl'ed and deleted the previous one. If so, why dont people do this? O_o

Not for me.. It takes me 5+ times to successfully upload each part of the iso.. Maybe I will start trading my xbox iso's if other people would be willing to use this trade method

attachments just seems like an easy way to do it, and ensure that the particular person gets everything correctly.. Sometimes FTP's can be annoying too.

I think bittorent is much better with regards to trading and sharing. You can always make a torrent of your Xbox isos and upload them to a public tracker and then give the link to that torrent to the person you want to trade that ISO with.

Also, just to make sure that there are no unwanted leechers sucking your bandwidth, you can always name your torrent something else (for example "my grandmother's wedding anniversary" ) and give the link to the person you wanna trade. Then he'll be the only guy downloading from you and getting MAX of your bandwidth. Pretty Simple

Also, this way there is absolutely no question of broken uploads so you won't have to upload your files 5+ times

Gmail wouldn't be a good choice. I think attachment size is limited at something like 10 or 20 megabytes. Thats a LOT of rar parts.

For the bittorrent method, there is a decentralized tracking method and a built-in tracker (identified by your own IP) function in Azureus, so it isn't even neccessary to use public trackers.

Wow..didn't know that. I've been using BitComet for a very long time and have been happy with it so didn't check out any other torrent client. I'll check out Azureus sometime later. Thanx for the info pkt-zer0

if you're going to send big files such as a 4gig file, don't split it up 4 ways only. split it up like 20 ways or 30 ways or more. the more you split the faster it'll transfer those small files and the less that you'll get errors.

If you use torrent theres no reason to split files at all. Although compressing them is a good idea still.

Yup. Compressing is a really good idea. You never know what the size of the compressed ISO might be until you compress it but trust me, it DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Sometimes even a 1 GB ISO when compressed might give an output file less than 500 MB

I remember downloading Alien Hominid off the net. The compressed ISO Rar file size was only 650 mb but when uncompressed, the ISO turned out to be a 2.4 gb ISO
