No guns here. Even if I had one I don't think I'd ever be able to kill someone.

I want to second there is definately no possession worth dying for. The whole concept is rather absurd. I mean, hell, I'm sure your ps2 will be unbelievably useful once you're dead!

Very true which is why it is better to just spend the money to get a real one if you are going to use a paintball gun.

Society would be fine if in order to use technology one had to understand it. Excuse my stereotyping, but gun owners are the most moronic and insecure people you will ever find, much like fans of rap. Hunting is an even bigger joke. Brag about taking down that peaceful deer when you outsmart or outperform it, but not after sniping it with an assault-class cannon you bought at Wal-Mart.

Einstein said that it's a shame when our technology surpasses our humanity.

Hobbes said "the right to self-defense is something that you can not give up" Now Einstein was quite a scientist but its kind of like taking advice from Mike Jordan on how to create a website. I believe that when guns are used correctly, they provide no threat to an innocent person. Of course, if you inncorrectly use guns, they will kill people.....but if you inncorrectly use a blender, I am pretty sure that you can kill someone with it. So basically don't punish the rest of the citizens from bearing arms just because some people don't know how to own guns.

Just because he said something that is not neccessarily true doesn't mean that you should dismiss everything that he has said. He is sort of right IMHO, I think that there is need for some sort of order in life, like a government or something. He just hadn't heard of democracy yet because it is really a fairly new idea. Between freedom and order, people will always choose order.

Hobbes had a very bleak and cynical view of humanity, similar to mine.
Bill Waterston (Waterson?) named the cat of Calvin and Hobbes after him because the cat doesn't think too highly of people either.
I agree with Hobbes in that people can't be trusted to do the right thing, so weapons that can kill others should not be permitted, except to the highest of government positions for civil obedience. If you live in a good area, a place where people follow laws, you shouldn't need a handgun to feel safe. If you don't live in a good area like that, you should be focused on leaving the area and not fighting off thugs and other vermin. Generally those who can afford to prattle around online on a personal computer have a fairly good lot in life and do not need to worry about things like life and death shootouts.

A "How many guns do you own?" thread on a video game emulation board. What's next, a "Who's your favorite 15th century composer?" thread on a Nascar forum?

Is there a single place that is immune to murder in violent crime? I just think that it is essential that people be able to protect themselves when need be because lets face it, the police can't be everywhere at once. Bad people will get guns no matter what so its best to balance the scales and allow good people to get them too.

Well I never said that we should dismiss what he said... I was just checking to make sure we were talking about the same person..

PS... He wrote during the English Civil war... when Parlament overthew the Crown... IE... Representative goverment in it earlyest form... He sided with the Crown though... thinking that representative goverment would never work.

But he never said that the power had to be a monarchy, it just needed to be absolute, which would include anything such as a king, president, or an assembly. People do need rules so when they commit a crime, they don't go unpunished, but punishing people for owning a gun shouldn't be a crime....just punish people who commit the crimes with guns.

Hobbes believed that Thucydides' account of the Peloponnesian War showed that democratic government could not survive war or provide stability and was thus undesirable.
This sovereign, whether monarch, aristocracy or democracy (though Hobbes prefers monarchy), should be a Leviathan, an absolute authority.
Hobbes prefers monarchy... but his theory works with other goverments as well...

As in we were both partially correct. Thank you Wikipedia i did not know that.

Ok, this has gotten way off topic. I know my posts didn't help, so I will leave this open for gun owners to post what type of gun they have. No more discussions on the ethics of ownership, alright?
